Dial-up settings and ME

My question concerns IE5.5 and the dial-up settings in the connections tab in the tools/internet options. I have to constantly re-check the option that says “always dial my default connection.” Whenever I reboot and at other times also, it reverts to the “never dial a connection” option. It is, in the grand scheme of things, a very minor annoyance, but there must be a reason for it happening. How come it won’t “remember” my setting? Nothing else changes. If it makes any difference, I am using Windows ME.

Oh and I always use the “apply” button first and then the “O.K.” button. I have no idea if that really makes any difference or not, but, well, you know how Windows is.

I’ve gotten around this by setting up the OS to ask me for a password when I first turn the machine on. That way I am logged in as a user, not as a generic “default”. From there on, all my personal passwords are saved in my numerous dialup applets. There might be another way to do this, but that is how I did it.
