In a nutshell, that’s what’s wrong with the Emmys. Outside the mini-series awards, it’s hard to tell one year from another. And that’s why the answer to the question in the thread title is: “apparently not” .
I loved the bit with Shandling, Duchovny, and the ping pong paddle. Also, John Ritter wouldn’t have won since he died before last years show.
Well, in all fairness, Boyle’s been doing a terrific job for that long without winning once, so one might argue he’s “due”. But Kelsey had three already–could it have hurt a little to share the wealth?
Yes, however Kelsey Grammer and Peter Boyle were not in direct competition. Boyle was in the same category as David Hyde Pierce who’s won a few times. Boyle is the only one who hasn’t won at least once on his show. I don’t watch Everybody Loves Raymond religiously but I’ve seen a lot of the reruns and Boyle’s character may be a one joke wonder most of the time but every so often you see a different side. Anyway, Peter Boyle is a great actor with a lot of range and versatility, so we know he’s actually acting when he plays that role.
Besides, Young Frankenstein is one of my favorite movies so I just happen to love Peter Boyle.
I was kinda hopin’ for James Arness to show up and kick Kelsey’s ass.
Then how could he be nominated? (Color me confused?)
Ya know your’re right. How did he get nominated for the 2004 awards. I’m confused.
2003 Nominations Announced: July 17, 2003
John Ritter’s Death: September 11, 2003
2003 Emmys: Sept 21, 2003
Polls were closed. Voting had ended. Episodes of 8 Simple Rules with John Ritter had already been made for the 2003-2004 season. Remember, he died on set, not during the shooting hiatus. Those episodes, which aired after July 17th, were eligible.
This does explain why John Ritter wasn’t in the death montage, which I found odd. But I’m still pissed about them leaving out Kevin Smith, so I’d shrugged it off.
I was confusing the winning of an award with being included in the memorial tribute. His memorial tribute would have been last year, his award this year.
:smack:
Thank you, kind Rysler. I am confused no longer.
No worries. I also found that divide disturbing.
You’re welcome. I am pleased at the opportunity to use my powers for good.
