Did the Grammys affect your music buying?

after watching the grammys were you influenced to buy or not buy certain albums?

Sure did.

I wont buy anything that I saw the artist thank ‘god’ for.

Unfortunately, yes. In general, the last thing I’d do on earth is buy something that was grammy-nominated, due to the pablum they normally have on the show, but just a few days ago I said, what the hell, let me get that Moby cd, he’s GOT to be a little bit alternative. But it’s crap. Never again do I buy anything even remotely grammy-related. Anybody want this cd?

I take pride that I don’t own any of the crap that was nominated for the Grammys.

The facts, although interesting, are irrelevent.

No, not at all. I had Tom Waits’ Mule Variations (won for best contemporary folk album, nominated for best male rock vocal for Hold On'') and Nine Inch Nails' The Fragile (nominated for best metal performance, I think, for Starfuckers, Inc.’’) before the Grammies, and I was going to buy Tori Amos’ To Venus and Back anyway. None of the performances were impressive enough to persuade me to buy any CDs, but I did decide that Kid Rock isn’t as bad as everyone says it is…

Ack. Make that ``Grammys.’’

Yes, and in a good way. I shop online at a great Christian music store called musicforce.com (shameless plug). For each Grammy nominee, they had the album discounted to $10.00. So, I bought some of my favorite albums, for a really cheap price.

But, to truly answer the OP…No. The actual show does not affect my decision one bit.

“Life is hard…but God is good”

Nope. Because I didn’t watch the Grammies. But then again, I buy music based on whether I like it, so I doubt they would’ve influenced it anyway.

I’m not a big Grammy watcher, and neither is my husband, who is a musician. Neither of us much cares for pop music, either. But just this afternoon, I bought him a copy of Santana’s Supernatural. Not because of the Grammys, though. I’ve not heard a thing from this CD, but my husband has heard a few cuts on jukeboxes, and mentioned that he might like to have a copy.

Regardelss of who he thanks for his talent, Carlos Santana is a great freaking guitar player, and I’m looking forward to listening to this one. My husbnad says that what he’s heard is good, and a few other people that I know also say it’s quite excellent.

This space blank, until Wally thinks up something cool to put here.

I firmly believe the Grammies are afraid of the music I cherish. Oh well, I will continue to watch shows such as “Reverb” (HBO, Saturday night 1AM) or “Farmclub.com” (USA, Monday night 11PM…right after WWF).

By the way, you guys wanna hear something funny? I personally am not a fan of Santana; however this is not a “slam” on the band, moreorless, on concert-goers. But, last year Santana came to The GTE Virginia Beach Ampitheater, which holds approx. 20,000 people. They could only dream of selling out the facility. This year, Santana sold out the Ampitheater the day tickets went on sale… :rolleyes:Isn’t that disgusting. Damn the Grammies…

In original dialect, it’s really quite cryptical, there are many copies around but this my man is the original.

Not really. I’ve got pretty crappy taste in music. I did like that latest from Santana though.

…send lawyers, guns, and money…

Jennifer Lopez affected my pulse. Does that count? I didn’t watch, I just saw the news coverage.
I don’t buy many CD’s. More a radio head, I guess. I will be getting Santana’s new CD, though.

I bought Santana’s new CD long before the Grammys. And I don’t know who won what else there, so it didn’t affect me.

“All right. Have it your own way. Road to hell paved with unbought stuffed dogs. Not my fault.”

Good Lord, no. I don’t even pay attention to award show fluff anymore. My musical tastes may not be the most refined on the planet, but they’re mine – if I like something I hear, I like it, Grammy winner or no.

A cubicle is just a padded cell without a door.

I was going to say (like Cowboy Greg) “Good Lord, no” but the reality is that it probably will affect my music buying.

The way I decide to buy an album: recommendations from a friend, review in a newspaper/magazine, or hearing on the radio a portion of the album I like. Since artists nominated for Grammys have a higher chance of being in one of the categories above, there probably is a better chance that I will buy one of their albums. (For people that say “I buy music when I like it”, the truth is that albums that get Grammys get much more radio airplay, and so there’s a higher probability that you will hear it.) For example, when I read about Tom Waits’ Mule Variations and decided to buy the album, the article had been written because his album was nominated for a Grammy.

So yes, much as I hate to admit it, the Grammys do influence my music buying.

Fuck, no.

I usually buy the compilation of Grammy nominees. I bought a Shawn Colvin c.d. because I liked “Sunny Came Home.”

I’m just glad I didn’t watch the show.

I heard about Rosie O disrespecting Sam Bush and Edgar Meyer as “some fiddle guys no one’s ever heard of.”

I might have kicked the tube in.

My Grammy is deaf in one ear and doesn’t like music much so she doean’t influence my purchases.

I bought the Santana CD well before the awards and it’s well worth it. I’m suprised that Rosie would make an insulting cheap shot like that but I’m already ticked at her for other reasons. Still she looked pretty cute in the leather outfit in Exit to Eden.

They show those on TV? They already had them this year? Shows how plugged in I am.

But it’s always cool when somebody mentions Tom Waits in a good way, so I guess they’re not completely worthless.
