Did you go see dinner theater, back in the day?

Been to the Oregon Cabaret Theater here in Ashland a couple of times. Dinner & drinks were served before the show; dessert and more drinks at intermission. Enjoyed both the meals and the shows, although sitting that long in a dining chair is a bit rough. We’re more inclined to skip dinner (which is optional), and just catch the show.

Live theater is a major tourist draw here, since we also have the Oregon Shakespeare Festival; I suspect that influences the quality of the other local theater options. Mediocre theater would not survive long here.

I went to dinner theater last week - and will probably go two or three times more this year. I don’t know if any of the performers are famous, but they are well-regarded regional performers, the kind of folks who do touring shows in addition to dinner theater performances. And the food is quite good…

As a child I saw several productions in a theater as class trips. Productions specifically for children. They were at the Papermill Playhouse which is not a dinner theater. It’s one of the theaters productions go when they are hoping to take it to Broadway.

I just looked it up and there is a dinner theater not terribly far. I’ve actually driven past it many times because you can see it from Route 78. Never been there.
