Did you know the Swedish Crown Princess got married yesterday (Saturday)?

Nope - I scanned the headlines of the NY Times over the weekend and my impressions were:

  • Local and global sports coverage (MLB, NBA basketball off-season, World Cup)
  • China’s revaluing the Yuan (renmenbi), uncoupling its currency from a peg to the US Dollar to a basket of currencies (BIG news)
  • The BP oil situation in the Gulf of Mexico (upshot: “still a clusterfork”; one name on the BP emergency escalation contact list found to be for a person dead for five years)
  • In (very) local news, a group long lobbying for Federal recognition as a surviving tribe of Native Americans on Long Island (the Shinnecocks) gain the designation from the Bureau of Indian Affairs

Even today’s front page (online) has no mention of it. (Nor that of the Wall St. Journal, which I also scan in the morning.)

Yes, South African.

Nope, didn’t hear a word about it. Didn’t even know Sweden had a princess. Don’t catch much news on weekends (US).

Thanks for the link Taomist. The groom is kinda cute in a Clark Kent kind of way. Best wishes to the happy couple.

Yes - a lot of my friends are of Scandinavian extraction, so I saw it mentioned in a few Facebook status updates. And then I saw the articles on CNN.com.

Now there’s a fine defense of monarchy - free snacks!

No. From the USA.

Yep, US, but only because her sister is my backup plan in case things don’t work out with my wife.

I’m from the US, California, and I knew because I check online news websites almost everyday. The thing that popped out to me was that the wedding was unusual, so I read about it

I’m from North Carolina. Hard to imagine not knowing as it was on every news cast and plastered on all the news sites. I guess if it were a weekend where we went camping or hiking or something, I could have missed it. Otherwise, in any scenario where I was apt to have the TV or computer on for more than 2 minutes, I was going to hear about it.

Saw it mentioned on a news site, although not sure which one.
Edited to add In U.K. here.

I am very happy I had a reason to get out of town.

I’m not interested in that either. :frowning:

Don’t believe everything you hear. Even though you can see some very blond people in the streets my impression is that we dark haired outnumber them.

US - MA to be specific. I knew she was engaged, only because I followed a link from somewhere to somewhere else to somewhere else to her wiki page (I do that a lot, generally don’t remember where I started or why). That was a few weeks ago. Before that, I didn’t even know that Sweden had any princesses or princes of marrying ages.

So, I knew she was engaged but not that she got married.

Yes, but I can’t say I cared very much.

I just finished off a box of Swedish pancake mix that I got from Wegman’s last month. They had a small dispay of Scandinavian (mostly Swedish) products in their international food section with the Crown Princess’s and the former Mr Westling’s pictures.

I knew about the wedding beforehand (I pay more attention to royalty gossip than celebrity gossip).

British, saw a picture on the front page of a tabloid in the Supermarket.

USA; I was in Vietnam on the day it happened, but I heard about it as shortly afterward anyway, because I was still checking news sites every day or two.
