These same kind of conversations happen to me at least once every month. Most of the time, I handle it while laughing and smiling, because it’s not that serious. But there’s this one person who sometimes get super pushy. I don’t think it’s a coincidence, either, that she is the most overweight in the group. One day she was so determined for me to eat a cupcake that she deposited one in my cubicle, despite me telling her “no thank you” so many times that I actually starting getting visibly irritated with her. In my eyes, it was an act of passive aggressiveness. “Her willpower is weaker than mine because she doesn’t feel the need to buy this junk, so gosh darnit, let me do what I can to bring her to my level!” There was no other reason I can think for her to ignore my wishes like that.
What really sucks is that instead of throwing the cupcake away, I ate it later that day (unseen by her, though). My willpower is weak, that’s the thing. And that’s why I try to stay away from junk. When it’s not in front of me, it doesn’t exist. When it is, that’s when I’m tempted to eat it. The OP’s coworkers are rude as hell for making a to-do about other people’s food, but I can kind of relate to their feelings.
