As of September 28th, I’ll no longer be counted among the NY Dopers, but instead will be counted among the Philadelphia Dopers. So, to honor this occassion, I’d like to have one last Thursday night dinner with y’all. I’m thinking Thursday, September 19th, because I’ve taken September 20th off to give me more time for packing. The only thing I can say that I definitely want to do that night is go to Grassroots, where I can play darts with any other brave souls (brave if you’re standing near me as I play! :D) and have several drinks in this fantastic bar. I called them today to make sure there wouldn’t be a problem with the dart board being free, and they said Thursdays are the best nights to come down and shoot a few.
That’s really my only preference for the night. I’d like to go somewhere for dinner first, but I’m not picky about where. I’d be available to get together as early as, say, 5 (since I’m out of work at 4:30). So, what say you? Anyone want to join me for good food, good drinks and (since I’ll be playing) bad darts?

Honestly, though, depending on how much packing I have to do that weekend, I would be up for a semi-impromptu get together in Brooklyn on Saturday or Sunday, too.
RT, I was falling asleep at my desk on the 12th. THAT’S why I didn’t make it! I’ll just have to see what I can do about making it down your way to see you to make it up to you.
What a wonderful idea. Unfortunatley, Acrylic Vessel has just started school and has class late on Thursdays.
I actually intend on being on leave at the time, so maychance we can work on something for later that weekend (or even, depending when you’ll be down in Philly, we could do something there, like a welcome to Philly type thingy!)
Well, I’ll be in Philly as of September 28th, so any time after that would be good for a get-together there.
As for later in the weekend, we’ll see what we can work out. Though, I AM still looking for help that weekend to come out and help me pack all this junk up. I won’t even make you strain your back. I’ll just give you a box and pile stuff around you on the couch for you to put in said box. (Oh, and did I mention I’d be willing to buy beer and pizza for this venture? And I’m still looking for suggestions for dinner/time to get together… all those goodies. Come on, guys, I can’t do it ALL! After all, I’ve chosen the most important place. The place to go have a drink or two after we get some food in our stomaches!
Ok, y’all. Less than a week to come up with where we want to meet for dinner on Thursday. (Of course, I need to know before I leave for work Thursday morning, since I can’t access the boards from work). Delphica and I had mentioned Cozy’s for dinner, but we aren’t sure if they are open from their rennovations yet. So any other good second suggestions? And who all are we expecting for this? Just to get an idea if we’ll need to make reservations for any place on Thursday. After dinner, I’m still pushing for Grassroots where we can have a few drinks and I can throw a few darts with anyone brave enough to shoot with me.
It’s your dinner – we need some input on where to go! As you know, there’s no end of good foodage around the Grass Roots, so we can pick someplace close to there and save cabfare.
Le Souk, where we took Nymmy out for dinner, was outstanding and a ton of fun, but a little on the expensive side. Chez es Saada is another Moroccan that’s a little closer. On the other extreme, there’s always Paul’s and the outstanding burgers there – but they’re not in Zagats – are they still open? 6th St. is full of Indian – Baluchi’s is good, but there are others. Several good sushi joints are also in the area.
So help us out and point us in a direction here. Maybe do a neighborhood/price/cuisine search on Zagats and give us an idea of what you’re shooting for.
My first thought is an Indian Buffet or Paul’s (that is where you got the steak tartar, right?). But let me take a look at Zagats or CitySearch tonight or tomorrow and see if anything else catches my fancy. I’ll let you know by the end of the weekend. (Though I’m usually not very picky about these things.)
The other question is when. I’m free as of 4:30, but if no one else is clear that early, I can always hang out in my office reading until the time is right.
Paul’s is the really good burger place around the corner from Grassroots. It’s Cajun Man and DrMartix’s favorite place. It’s also very reasonable, which, considering what my bank account looks like after paying my bills today, may be a good thing.
