I realized yesterday that we haven’t gotten together since Spiderman came out, so I thought I’d ask around to see if y’all want to do some dinner in the next couple weeks.
As I see it, the best way to celebrate July 4 is to get good and ripped, but it is a holiday, so people probably have “family” stuff to do. Therefore, I also submit the the 11th, as we almost always do Thursday nights.
Since Acrylic Vessel and I have the farthest to travel and have to get a sitter, maybe we could get some ideas for the best date here for discussion.
I know CajunMan and DrMatrix are pretty much ready to go whenever, but I hear some others are pretty busy right now.
Let’s hear some “ayes” and “nays,” I’d like to see you guys soon.
Woo-hoo!!! Actually you know I only mentioned the dates I did because we’ve always done Thursdays, but weekends work so much better for us. I believe either of those weekends work just fine for us, so prospects are good.
And Biggirl, what’s up with the weekdays? Your bosses finally get tired of you calling in sick Fridays?
Why don’t you bring the Heapette along? I’m definitely bringing the Sprout to the next appropriate fest. Hopefully we can have it in a place where there is a smoke-free section, like a restaurant with a separate bar. (John’s Pizza would work)
I don’t think I have anything planned for July 4, but I’ll have to ask my social secretary (aka my husband) if we have anything going on yet. If not, I’d be up for a pick-a-nick or something.
My schedule is pretty clear otherwise, so I can probably make it on any date chosen. I would like to make sure Biggirl can make it. I owe her a beer. And a big smoochy kiss.
Anyway, if anybody is interested in where I’ve been lately, please see my update in this thread.
LOL! Ay-yup. I knows it. So, I think it looks like the few who have replied thus far all agree on the weekend of the 12th.
Beany, I’ll have to ask my wife about the baby, but I don’t think so. She doesn’t much want to bring her into the city yet, and you know we’ll end up staying very late, so we don’t want to drag the kid with us to all these bars all night.
…a Coney Island mini-Dopefest? I was talking to some of the crew about it recently, and we were considering Saturday the 13th.
Some suggested activities: walk on the boardwalk, swim (!), ride the Cyclone, go to the Coney Island Museum, grab a hotdog at the Original Nathan’s, visit the Aquarium, go to Brighton Beach, possibly see a baseball game (if tickets are available), and have dinner at Gargiulo’s.
I don’t mean to hijack your thread, GH, so if this doesn’t appeal to you at all, or if people are already booked for the 13th, I’m happy to go back to the dinner at John’s (or wherever) idea.
Either Coney Island or elsewhere would be nifty. Given the choice, I’d pick Coney Island, because it’s something new, and we don’t do enough in Brooklyn.
For those of you looking to meet before the big mini-Dopefest, I’ve called for another DopeDinner this Thursday, 6/27, at Blondies (6:30 p.m., 79th bet B’way & Amsterdam).
D’oh! Well, we are set for the 12th. I think that’ll do it for us. Acryllic Vessel would love to do a Coney thing, I’m sure, but that would require an awful lot of work for us, as we’ll have to head back north Friday night (re; Morning) and I can’t do that kind of walking either.
Ooo! I’d LOOOOVVVEEE to go to Coney Island! It would be a good place to take the Sprout, too. (Bill, can you babysit while I take a ride on the Cyclone?)
I’ll be there at Blondies this Thursday. Is it fairly smokeless? I’ll bring Arthur.
WARNING!!! WARNING!!! WARNING!!! WARNING!!! WARNING!!!
Coney Island ain’t what it used to be.
But a ride on the Cyclone (or a visit to Keystone Park and a look-see at the Cyclones) would be fun. And the bumper cars, that would be cool too. And Nathan’s for some frog’s legs.
And clams and beer on the boardwalk. That’s always fun-- especially if you’re into puking the next day. Seriously, I know a dive on the boardwalk that sells clams on the half-shell (steamers or raw).
And we could take in a sideshow. Those are cool too. Weird, but cool.
