It’s his OPINION. Unfortunately, by stating it as FACT, and then ignoring or refusing to acknowledge citations to the contrary, he comes across as a jerk.

I’m not sure there’s anything left to add about the annoyance and frustration caused by Dio’s hijacks of what should be interesting threads. If he really does give a tiny shit about what people care and what they think of him, I wish he’d take some of the well intentioned suggestions to heart and dial it back a notch. It’s gotton well beyond a pain in the ass to even attempt to read a thread he’s participating in. That’s fucked up.
I think there’s a misunderstanding in that you’re thinking of her as the GeometricMeanOldLady and what she posted was useful for sets of positive numbers that are interpreted according to their product and not their sum (as is the case with the arithmetic mean) e.g. rates of growth.
In fact, she strikes me more as The HarmonicMeanOldLady and what she proposed was to be an average useful for sets of numbers which are defined in relation to some unit, for example speed (distance per unit of time). The .07, indivisable by 5, was the result of an unnamed time component, TVM for example, to which only she was privy.
Diogenes the Cynic obviously has certain topics that flip him into asshole mode. He completely hijacked my Single Mother By Choice topic just because he wanted to get out some father’s rights rantings. And there was the child riding the subway topic he went cuckoo for cocoa puffs in so in summary he turns into a complete fuck nugget for topics including but not limited to children and pregnancy. Prime example of his my experience = fact BS: after a discussion on fertility and age in my Single Mothers topic his 24 karat observation was that his wife got pregnant in her 40’s so fertility issues aren’t a big deal. Can someone please make him go away?

Ok, fine. Bringing up Peace Corps service in a thread about the relative risk of young, intrepid, do-gooder types oing into very foreign and relatively dangerous places was totally irrelevant and uncalled for. :rolleyes:
They’re making me do it. They’re being complete JERKS by expressing their opinion of Diogenes as established FACT without prefacing everything THEY say as “in my opinion”. If only they were expressing their opinions NICELY and with all kinds of CAVEATS, instead of saying them FORCEFULLY as FACTS I would not be compelled to continue to browbeat them into submitting to an agreement with my position. I’m so INSECURE in my own opinions that having other people express theirs FORCEFULLY without stating up front that it is only another different OPINION threatens me terribly. I’m unable to avoid engaging with them on this topic, and I may in fact be compelled to bring them up in multiple other threads even when they don’t participate in those threads.
I’ve even come to conceptualize them as “Diogenes Attackers,” (with capitalization like that) and to see them as a single entity that I am opposed to. I’ve sent back-channel messages to Larry Borgia in order to try to form an opposition band. I’m hoping to recruit elucidator as a like-minded compatriot to the cause. That way, I’ll feel assured of my own opinion.
