Yep. Not knowing the difference between a fact and an opinion involves a special kind of stupid, and Dio’s got it in spades (with his insistence that “the settlements are illegal” is a fact).
There’s also the fact that he does on occasion spout complete and utter shit. There was the thread recently on people going apoplectic on an 8 year old child being “allowed” to take the subway in New York by itself and most people agreed this probably wasn’t a big deal in reality, and besides most of us in our childhood were latchkeys/roamers and in fact New York is safer now than it was then, and incidences of child abduction/molestation are the same etc.
Basically, everyone was being rational about it and sharing their annoyance at the braying mob who insist that “times have changed” and it’s not safe for children now without any evidence to support this position, and how this story was a big deal over nothing. Then in waltzes Dio saying he’d been a roamer as a child but, and I shit you not, “times have changed”, and he would never let his children out of his sight blah blah blah and then summarily failed to provide anything other than his learned (and oft-repeated) opinion on why this was the case. Evidence or logic wasn’t necessary for him to be right, apparently. I can’t imagine being so blind to an incidence of contradicting myself so completely in a discussion.
I echo those who say **Dio **can be awesome when he’s informing you on subjects he has extensive knowledge of, like history or religion. But as a debater he’s not the intellectual authority he seems to think he is, just someone who shouts loudly and repeatedly.
Strange that you picked that subway example, because that was a time when I ended up admitting that I was operating on false assumptions and a lack of real knowledge and admitted I was wrong.
I also wasn’t all that strident even at the beginning.

Do you care at all about how you’re viewed here? Does the fact that people are irritated and angered by your posting style bother you at all?
Pitting **Dio **is pointless. He’s invariably relaxed, reasonable and even amicable when pitted, because by default, he’s the center of attention. It’s only when the thread *isn’t *about him that he acts out in order to get people to notice him.

I don’t enjoy being pitted and never think about trying to get attention. The aspects of my psychology that get me pitted are honestly not grounded in attempts to be provocative or cause reactions (or get attention), but in impulsiveness, lack of filter (that may be getting worse with age), a few hair-trigger issues and a hyperbolic style that often comes over as more literal than I intend it to. I don’t post with calculating or long-range motives. I just sometimes pop off without thinking at all. I think people give me too much credit. I’m not calculating or devious. I’m just a loudmouth. Also, it’s a message board, so I can vent more colorfuly than I can IRL.
If so, then I apologize.
(My own faults, incidentally, include a willingness to concede a point too easily. Go figure.)

The settlements that are built on land that has been taken by force in the areas often refered to as the Occupied Territories are illegal under international law. There is no argument, no doubts.
Don’t defame ballbags like this. Ballbags serve a useful evolutionary purpose by regulating the temperature of the testes.
Diogenes, on the other hand, serves no such noble purpose unless he holds a coldpack or a heating pad against someone’s balls. And considering male humans already have a ballbag that more or less does this job, Diogenes serves no evolutionary purpose whatsoever.
So? It’s still an opinion.

It’s an opinion that is backed up by by fact and supported in international law, as far as opinions go it’s a winner.
