Diogenes the Cynic?

Since I am a high school escapee with very little formal education this might be hard to understand but bear with me.

Homo-sapiens - A species of animal that evolved with reasoning ability instead of strength, speed or other physical attributes of other species. Whether we’re the only species with this ability is not certain.

Religion - The first time Ned Neanderthal saw lightning. Mythology and religion are synonyms. Since man is a herd animal, religion evolved into a control mechanism.

Morals - Natural instinct to preserve the species. Example: Child molesters should be executed as should murderers. They are a threat to the survival of the species. This has been perverted by religion into a control instrument.

Politics - The religion of power. Religion and politics can be but synonymous but not always.

This primitive base is my platform for self-knowledge. I try to be totally objective and not limit myself to views I’m comfortable with. Any statement made to the masses I automatically take as false because it involves one of the two control mechanisms and by outright lie or unintentional (even subliminal) syntax contains bias. I am wrong on my initial opinions more times than not but that’s part of game. I subscribe to this message board because the majority of the posters have opinions that conflict with everything I was taught as a child and that’s a really tough chain to break. Being human I have my perceptions that are written in stone and will probably never change. A weak spot if you will.

DIOGENES YOU PRICK!! You stomped all over it in this thread with this putrid maggot infested piece of shit
“So even if he did lie you don’t care? Human life is that meaningless to you? Would you care if you were one of those kids taking sniper fire every day? Would it be ok for the president to kill your son for approval ratings?”

That’s his job dumbass. He’s the figurehead that takes all the yamoring squalling bullshit from the out of power party. It was Clintons job and all the back to the original George W.
My son is not in Iraq. He was 4th generation Marine Corps in Desert Storm… I do have a nephew and cousin there and I’ve got real news for you asshole. THERE ARE NO FUCKING KIDS IN IRAQ. It’s demeaning and condescending to the men that watch the sun rise every morning and wonder if it’s their last. They see death everyday, not some Hollywood extravaganza death but the dead dog in the road reality. They’re virtually an exact slice of America in religion, ethnicity or politics. There are as many reasons they signed on as there are men but the one thing they have in common is courage, commitment and pride. Their day ranges from bored to instant piss your pants fear in a flash. They do this day in day out for as long as necessary. They have no use for pity and resent the hell out of it from anyone but their mothers.
But who does the washington post do a story on.
This motherfucker. . I read this article and I can smell the fear oozing out of him. He’s not pissed at the Iraqi’s and he’s not pissed at Bush. He’s a stone coward. He’s lost his courage (assuming he ever had any). Don’t worry about him though. If this article didn’t get him out,he’ll sneak off and shoot himself in the foot “while cleaning his weapon”.
Don’t think you’re special. This “poor kids” bullshit. is phony political crap spewed out by the scum of the earth.

that was worth of Justhink

naturally, I mean worthy :smack:

So…you’re mad because Mr. the Cynic used the word “kids” to describe soldiers? Seems a tad oversensitive to me (not to say hysterical) but whatever. Doesn’t really detract from his main point though.

@ a certain age, you can’t help but look at people in their twenties and think, “I’m old enough to be your parent.” Once that happens, they become kids. My great grandfather referred to Ronald Reagan, when he was president as a young punk.

For god’s sake, will no one think of the women?

sorry, I just had to do it

Is it really that bad? And people complain about the birth rate in Japan…

Ayup. That’s war. And real wars, unlike “Hollywood extravaganzas”, are fought by kids.

Good Lord!

This is so far beneath Diogenes that I doubt we will even see him here.

You are all over the map with your assertions. Everthing from “I try to be totally objective and not limit myself to views I’m comfortable with” — to — “Being human I have my perceptions that are written in stone and will probably never change”.

Egad. Your best bet is to spend the next few months (at least) shutting up and listening.

But that did nopt even BEGIN to approach the lunatic ravings of Justhink.

The verbal equivalent of popping a zit.

So the OP’s annoyed because Diogenes is older than the average soldier and can identify with their parents?

Or is it because he knows better than a guy actually out there getting shot at ?

Maybe someone could rewind this thread and gives us subtitles for the clear of thinking?

There’s really nothing much for me to respond to here. I’m just curious what the OP thought he was proving with the Washington Post article that he linked. It sounded from his description like it was about a deserter or coward of some sort. I didn’t see one in the article. It’s just about the low morale and cynicism of some of the troops there. Maybe Read_Neck meant to post a link about GWB’s war record?

I was going to write about my own service and what a kid I was but on second thought…nah…why bother.

I will say that the OP’s assertion that it’s the president’s job to kill American troops for approval ratings is one of the most asinine things I’ve read for a while.

They should rename this thread attack of the communist snobs so they can try to elevate their snooty ego.

Sadly, the article you linked to requires a password and Username and since I have no desire to sign up for an account and end up getting lots of spam, I will just have to guess.

Courage comes in many forms, why call a person a coward when all they want to do is simply stay alive.

This person you referanced may well be terrified, which means he is not suited to the task, a square peg in a round hole.

He is just human, and like many folk, signed up for something he did not truly understand its implications.

We all make such mistakes, wish we had not maybe volunteered, or perhaps we suddenly discovered that we are actually incompetant in our own field, it happens.

This person probably does not feel too good about themselves as it is, but I would be interested to know how much active service you have seen, you seem very free in your condemnation.

Having been under fire myself, though not in that much risk, I would never call anyone who desperately wanted out a coward, nor would it taint my opinion of them, you have much less compassion,

In my view your lack of empathy ranks you a long way below that person, unless you can respond in a way that convinces me otherwise.

No, it’s just that in all their frothing and foaming, Read_Neck and his ilk forget that there are human beings other than Americans in Iraq.

I wasn’t sure whether this was irony or not, as i had not really come across BeatenMan before on these boards, so i did a search and found that it was most likely perfectly serious. In this thread Ben has been kind enough to supply us with a short summmary of BeatenMan opinions on the Iraq war. All i can surmise from reading this stuff is that BeatenMan’s username refers to actions carried out on his cranium. There’s very little else that could explain such ranting.

Oh, but for the want of just one little semicolon in that last sentence and it would make our current president’s opinion of his job description much clearer to the masses. :stuck_out_tongue:

At least I hope that’s the right punctuation I want. I always get confused and it IS awfully early in the morning for me.

casdave, you’re giving the OP too much credit for accurately characterizing the story that he links to. It has nothing to do with any soldier being afraid or wanting to come home out of fear. It’s about low morale and cynicism among the military police in Iraq. It focuses especially on one 22 year veteran reservist who is a Staff Sgt. at an MP Post in Baghdad. Here are a couple of the quotes that Read_Neck is spinning as evidence of “cowardice.”

Please note that Pollard at no point ever indicates that he is going to go AWOL, or “shoot himself in the foot,” or has any intention at all of not fulfilling his duties. He’s just tired and he wants to go home. The article quotes several other MPs who express similar sentiments. They are also all quite pessimistic about the success of their mission:

The article also profiles a local Iraqi police officer and the mistrust that exists between American troops and the Iraqi people. That is the point and the tone of the article.

Actually, now that I read it again I’m getting kind of pissed off that Read_Neck would dare to call that man a coward. He’s doing a crappy job, getting shot at every day, doesn’t know who he can trust or not trust, has not been able to talk to his family for months (his 2nd grandchild was born recently and he hasn’t been able to find out her name), he’s living with only a few hours of electricity a day, shitty food, limited water, hatred and even violent resistence from those he’s supposed to be helping and he doesn’t even know when he can ever go home (it may be as long as two years).

Hey, guess what, Neck, everybody over there wants to come home. Are they all fucking cowards? Fuck you!

It’s called a colon.

That’s his job: dumbass.
