That thread is not an attempt to “trash you.” If I had wanted to “trash you” I’d have actually, yanno, done so.
And for what it’s worth, Snakespirirt, since you opened the thread, you are within your rights to request it be closed. It might not be, that’s entirely up to the moderators (if they feel there’s a legitimate and useful discussion going on, f’rinstance, they often will leave it open). But there’s no harm in asking for it to be closed. That is, if you really are down with the “having consideration for DtC” and all.
I’m just saying that to leave the discussion open without regard for the OP (that is, to hijack it for some other purpose) is not a fair use of “The Pit.” If one wants o bring further charges against Dio, this is the place. If not: Move On!
No, I don’t think you get to determine the rules of engagement. You opened the thread, and therefore you can request that it be closed. But you cannot dictate to others what they may or may not post in it.

You brought it up. Marley23 did not. The whole “there was an argument between us, which I won and he is now nursing a grudge” thing? That was you. If you were going to get on your high horse and say “as a man of integrity, I will not betray another poster” then you shouldn’t have fucking brought it up. That’s not integrity, it’s cowardice and libel.
The people asking you for a cite are the ones who are concerned for Marley23, not you. They’re the ones trying to determine if there is something more to your claim than mere puffery.

I thought hijacks were a breach of etiquette and frowned upon. IIRC, I’ve seen admonishments from mods and on occasion threads locked when hijacks got out of hand.
He brought it up in response to my post that I was surprised that Marley23 chided him about misspelling Diogenes’ name in the OP title. Snakespirit appeared to be feeling badly because he couldn’t spell very well. I told him not to worry about it, that spelling and punctuation errors were usually overlooked here and that I was surprised Marley23 even brought it up (appearing to come from out of nowhere as it did) given that Marley23 hadn’t as yet posted anything to the thread. Snakespirit brought it up by way of explaining to me why Marley23 was behaving like that.
I’m in agreement with you that hijacks are bad. However, I’m responding to:
While hijacks are frowned upon, so is attempting to limit the discourse. If what I want to do in response to the OP (or later in-context responses) is something other than bringing charges against Diogenes (say if I want to criticize or disagree with the OP) then that’s entirely appropriate. Snakespirit didn’t limit himself to saying “no hijacks please” he said, in essence “only criticism of Diogenes is welcome in this thread”.
But slamming spelling, punctuation and grammar is common behavior. And if Snakespirit wanted to explain the disagreement without “betraying a fellow poster” then something along the lines of “I guess he’s mad at me” would be sufficient. But that’s not what Snakespirit did. He said:

Perhaps you are right, but I doubt it. I have my own set of standards that are seemingly different that many of you, and I stick by them. Marley23 didn’t respond to my comment, so I figured he didn’t want to say anything more, so I dropped it. He didn’t and the whole story finally came out.
Plus, I don’t come here to work for you. This is the PIT, not great debates.
I will say that I am stupid. And impulsive. I get caught up in the heat of a “discussion” and say things I wouldn’t if I sat and thought about it. Not that I’m not intelligent, I have (or at least had) a genius IQ, but I seem to not use it all that well at times.
I also do get a bit high-handed about the rules, and sometimes repeat what I heard instead of checking the actual rules. Hijacks are particularly annoying to me, and quite rude, and I was quite rude in my handling of them.
No excuses. Sometimes I’m an asshole, occasionally a jerk, but I don;'t mean to be, I just get out of hand. Maybe it’s menopause…
Oh, and I make a lot of typing/spelling errors, and if people want to jump in my shit for such manini stuff it just shows what jerks they are.
