Diplomacy - Dominatrix

RCN.COM looks to be down altogether, could be a while.

Seems to be back up. The email is out and the webpage is updated.

Y’know, Ben, if you link two pages together, you have a website.

Russia, I hope the game was fun for you.

Good going, Green. A bit unusual, but it could work very well.

I shall henceforth call it the Balkan Somersault.

I like that!

Gotta feel sorry for Austria.

And France. Gotta for sorry for France. Peaceful, harmless France.

Non-threatening, well defended, not-worth-your-time, look-the-other-way France.

France. We come from France.

Well, that’s one vote for and one against. I hope the Bothnian Gambit turns out ok.

Yeah. France is at the top of my list to feel sorry for. Every morning when I wake up I check my list:

  1. Feel sorry for France
  2. Brush teeth and whatnot
  3. Go about conquering Europe
  4. Consider feeling sorry for France again

Oh, and Bothnian Gambit always sounds to me like somebody with a speech impediment is trying to conquer the Balkans.

You thee, when I check the vithinity of Therbia, Bothnia ith mythteriouthly mitthing. But maybe that’s the gambit part. It’th a thecret.

Gotta love those Italians.

You can say that again! I had NO freaking idea what I was in for here! In my defense I didn’t choose it but got stuck with Austria instead. I visited Austria in 1991 and loved it. Austria in 1901? You can keep it!

Everybody and their freaking mother wants a piece of me! Being a newbie I wasn’t aware of the danger Austria is in. Frankly I think Austria has the worst spot of the lot. FOUR countries have immediate access to Austria. No other spot on the map is in such danger. I think the Russians have the second most dangerous starting point being spread out as they are but then again they get four armies to start which mitigates that to some extent.

It also kills me how easily promises are broken in this game. I realize that judicious backstabbing is an important (and fun) part but does no one understand the value of a trusted ally? Certainly they may come to blows eventually but to hard and fast friends can go far if they needn’t worry about each other.

Maybe I’m just naive and my current position after the Fall move would seem to indicate this. My only saving grace is that so many countries are scambling to pick Austria apart that they almost interfere with each other.

I am curious as to people’s view on the strategies so far. Particularly perplexing to me was Italy’s venture into Austria. Certainly is caused me trouble…no doubt. However I don’t see the gain for Italy being there. Italy would then have Germany, Russia, Turkey and France to worry about. It seems better for Italy to take a stab at Turkey or France first as the gains would be much safer from plunder from multiple sources.

Hopefully it is ok to speculate on that as at this point those cards have already been played.

Why why why? I’m not such a bad guy! Austria is good! Austria is your friend!

I’m going the way of Switzerland and going neutral…put the hash marks across my country! I’ve already posted the KEEP OUT and BEWARE OF DOG signs at the borders.

I’ll just stay tucked away up here enjoying my beer while listening to Mozart and counting the days till they come to film The Sound of Music.

What are you talking about, Whack-a-Mole? Turkey, for one, has no particular objection to Austria.

Hmm, lets see, Turkey borders two other Nations, Russia and Austria. . .Turkey has no problem with Austria . . . therefore. . .

I must say I’m having a hard time working through the logic here.

England for one, has no problems with the Austrians. Just know that someone out there loves ya’all.

Ha!

If I had a nickle for all the times I’ve been told that…(and we’re only two turns in)! [sub]I’ve even got a raft of e-mails to show people sweetly feigning innocence while they screwed me all the while.[/sub]

Hint, Mastema.

Greece. Serbia. Mediterranean.

The possibilities are endless.

There’s lots of love out there for Austria!

[And the Italians make me laugh. :^)]

I guess some might say big deal to that…it’s the name of the game. I agree to the extent that someone smiles at you while going behind your back is part of the fun. What I’m on about is more akin to someone plunging a knife in you and looking you straight in the eye trying to explain how this is actually a good thing and a favor they are doing you. I’m still trying to figure if the person in question honestly expected me to buy that.

Pfft.

You all should have gotten three builds in the fall. Like me.

Then you wouldn’t have all these problems.
