Well, you didn’t actively call anyone a…
…groundhog…
**YES!!!{/b]
Yes, of course!
I don’t think I’m doing well now. I think I could be slaughtered now within three years’ time.
And that would surely not be fun.
Oh but it IS fun! You get to do your deviouseliest to take the suckers down with you!
What?? It’s not acceptable to be call someone a big Pooh Head??? Be careful France, Germany got greedy and had to pay a price. Oh who am I trying to kid!! I’m gone in two years time tops.
Oh, if only someone could feel my pain!!! {Wail} Where’s Bill when you need him?!?
Clarissa_xxx: Do you really think given your antagonism of Germany, the fleets built in St. Petersburg and Brest, and your failure to discuss Belgium with the French Premier, now is a good time to fling bizarre AA Milne insults at your nearest neighbor?
Insults? I was being kind! Say, do you want to claim, as Russia does, that their fleet builds are ‘defensive’? Wow, I must be dangerous!
Not defensive, for charting and cartography purposes. I’m going to need unrestricted access to the North Sea, but I will gladly share my maps with you when they are complete. Of special interest will be the islands of New Paris should you not find a seat at the diplomatic table very soon.
This looks like fun. Can I be apart of any new games coming up? I’d volunteer to run one but its been some time since I played and I don’t have any nifty sites like are being used now. I admit that I suck at Diplomacy. I did in the past and probably will now but I always had fun even going down to crushing defeat.
Here’s my take on game 2:
100-1 Austria: This guy is cooked. Stick a fork in him. He fell for some sucker line to move like he did last turn.
6-1 Italy: Looks like France is interested elsewhere and Austria not putting up much of a fight. Good chance may have an alliance with Turkey but also equally good chance Turkey and Russia are allied and Italy will be next victim. I give the 6-1 because I think it will turn out that Italy and Turkey are allied and Russia will be next victim. Difficult to tell.
9-1 Russia: Obvious that Russia trusts Turkey way too much and leaving too tempting a target for Turkey since Austria is collapsing fast. Russia doesn’t appear to be getting anything from the Balkans and is attacking England. The problem is that it is obvious that England is not fooled and prepared. This will tie up many units leaving them out of position when a stab comes.
8-1 Germany: I don’t think Germany is actually in that bad a spot. Not a good spot but not as bad as it might first appear. England will be tied up with Russia and vice versa. He can take back Munich but probably will lose Belgium. I think that after Austria falls soon and it appears that Turkey and Italy are growing that they may actually become allies. Then again, maybe not.
11-1 England: I would give England worse odds except that I think he is snug with France. Germany will be tied up with France but will lose Norway to Russia in '02 with no new builds. If he holds on long enough, Russia may be stabbed by Turkey which will put the pressure off. I have seen a French-German-English alliance pop out of warfare when a power like Austria goes down and they become worried.
6-1 France: Not in as good a position as might first appear. I think France is snug with England but England will be tied down with Russia and the same will happen with Germany after a Munich-Belgium switch. After a strong alliance comes out, probably Turkey-Italy they may come to terms to confront it. If not, France will not survive and Germany will probably do the same. I’ve seen this happen alot when I used to play.
3-1 Turkey: In the drivers seat. Good play. Through diplomacy, he managed to get two builds as well as will dismember Austria without needing Russian help and has Italy helping. He can choose which way to ally himself either with Italy or Russia. I would say Italy since Russia seems to be directed toward England and away from the Balkans making him try for very hard to get centers and depriving him of the garden of supply centers in the Balkans. Very good position.
Of course, I could be completely wrong. I want to play!
I might look at game 1 and would like to hear more commentary by non-participants.
Well, when one of these games goes to the finish I’ll probably decide to try another one.
Of course, I might want to actually play in one sometime. Who knows!
But watch for new dip game threads!
I would be willing to host some games but I do not have a web site or anything and I am not web-site building savy. I would be more than willing to host some games to give you a chance to play. I would also be willing to step in if someone NMR’s.
Actually, Bill Clinton would be more likely to feel your breasts.
What say a wager, Ms. Game 2 England? Whoever gets wiped out first, buys the otherone some tea and biscuits.

Hey, you’re the one who’s got to live with it, so if it makes you happy…but my guess is, it won’t.
In Game 2, Germany’s future prospects are very much dependent on what sort of help it can get from whatever allies it can scrounge up, and that’s always a lousy position to be in, when you’re a central power. Germany can certainly get Munich back, but it’s likely to be at the cost of Belgium. Germany’s gonna need help to get its traditional Denmark build, which it may or may not get. And if it doesn’t, it’s dead.
I question Italy’s army build, though I think I understand the motivation. But there’s an Austrian fleet loose in its home waters, and the Turkish navy’s getting ready to move. If Italy loses the battle for the Med, it’s dead - regardless of how well it does on the Continent. The Austrian fleet threatens Naples and Tunis right now, immobilizing those navies, and it also threatens to move to the Tyrrhenian, where it would also be able to threaten Rome. All this playing defense will keep the Italian navy tied up while Turkey steams westward.
Better to have built F Rome, even if Austria responds by F Ion-Adr. The worst that would have been likely to happen up there is that Italy wouldn’t gain a new base in '02, but would still wind up with two out of three of Ven/Tri/Vie. As it is, Italy may gather all three of those, but end '02 with the Turks in its waters.
RT’s odds:
France, Turkey: 3-1
England, Russia 5-1
Italy, Germany 12-1
Austria 77-1
France, Russia: 2-1
Turkey: 7-1
England, Germany, Austria: 14-1
Italy: 119-1
Austria can survive the attacks from Italy. It won’t last much longer afterwards, but fighting someone who actually returns my e-mails will be easier than battling the faceless Italian coward.
I’ll return your emails (sorry Bibliophage, but I’m in the other game.
That last line is much better like this:
I’ll return your emails (sorry Bibliophage), but I’m in the other game, so I’m not much help.
Hey, I’m outta town for the holiday weekend, so it is not possible for me to read and return e-mails right now. Is anybody else out of touch right now? What do y’all say, can we get a two-day extension on due-dates for the upcoming turns?
Sure would be the sportin’ thang to do. And by the way, Happy Thanksgiving!
