Diplomacy Game One: The thread of doom!

My confusing orders are still standing in Dip Adams 936.

I’ve contacted the party involved. If I don’t get an answer by this afternoon I’ll decide to run with the orders or replace the player.

Got that?

Blarrgh! I can’t wait for this afternoon. If you send me his orders I will correct them for you.

Yeah, I’ll just bet you will.

And I’m the impatient sort, too.

Argh.

It’s all about the diplomacy, MG. Nice and subtle.

I’ve got to admit, Maeglin, whether it’s diplomacy or blind fate you’re definitely in a good spot. England and Germany seem happy to be at each other’s throats, and neither one is in a position to stab you on their own. And the mess in the Balkans isn’t hurting you either.

In fact, if I were truly paranoid I’d wonder if you somehow convinced Russia to invade Constantinople just to increase the general level of chaos in that corner of the board. But only if I were truly paranoid.

:WHOOSH of flame:
Never mind the man behind the curtain.

And if everything works out the way I am hoping, I suspect I will be in a better position at the end of this year. But we shall see, as it will require some doing. And the deadline approaches.

Not my work, I’m afraid. I’ve just got my fingers crossed that it isn’t a juggernaut. That would cause me some distress.

MR

So here’s my situation…

One player in Dip Adams 936 submitted orders that are impossible for me to interpret. They could be valid…they could not.

That’s all I can say.

BUT

I sent an email last night asking for clarification.

I sent an email this morning asking for clarification.

No answer.

I have an applicant for the position. The vultures began circling early. Um, no offense, applicant.

So I wouldn’t mind some opinions here.

If this were Cat23 I’d bounce him in a second. But I like the Dopers more than that.

Thoughts?

That’s bizarre. If I have guessed correctly at the identity, I got an email from them early this morning. Is it possible to have another neutral party attempt to interpret the orders, or are they totally undecipherable? If it is just one move, is it possible to simply negate that order (as per the rules) and allow the rest, or would the player be crippled if the full orders couldn’t be carried out?

I’d hate to see someone loose their position based on a misunderstanding.

Well, that’s what I’m thinking too.

But no response to emails is no response to emails.

The decision is made. If I don’t hear from the player by the time I go to bed tonight there will be a substitute.

I’ll swap places with them. Unless it’s Austria. That guy’s fucked.

The prodigal has returned. After fighting off a coup one of our players maintains his hold on power.

Spring 1902 in Dip Adams 936 has been adjudicated.

Things are getting tight across mid-Europe. Tighter than a belt after Thanksgiving.

Working on 934 now.

And another one…

Dip Cecil 934 Fall 1902 has been adjudicated.

Boy, will retreats be complicated.

Get 'em into me quickly, children!

I just gotta ask. punha, what were you thinking exactly?

I hate you all.

I trust nobody. Not even myself, Maeglin:slight_smile:

What I was thinking? I’d be attacked. Several times. Thus my attempt to protect.

Operant term in previous sentence: attempt.

Attempting to protect is a good thing. It is better to be able to tell what one can protect rather than going after lost causes.

Regarding Austria in game one: ouch. That’s going to leave a mark. Probably a scorch-mark.

I’m guessing Russia in Budapest by the end of the Spring term. (Sorry, iampunha.) Trieste has the potential to be an point of contention between Germany, Italy, and Turkey.

England should last quite a bit longer, but if Germany and Russia keep up the pressure he’s pretty doomed in the long term. And I don’t see who he could appeal to for help anytime soon…

The questions I want to see answered: where is that Russian unit that vanished in Constantinople going to pop up next, and exactly what does Turkey think his long-term plans are?

Game two seems to be mired in a 7-way brawl at the moment. There’s definitely a need for some grand alliances in that game; without them the current skirmishes could last a long, long time.

Gotta love those 7 way brawls. Knock down drag out. That’s what I like.
