Discussion: How to compete in The Amazing Race

Here’s the best phrase I can figure out from www.milon.co.il for “And give a delay to the other teams.”

U’natan 'ikuv l’q’vutzim acherim

It was scary, but very fun.

Which translates loosely as, “Please smite the other teams.”

YAFI, YGI.

Assuming I have the vowels right: L’hakot q’vutzim aherim.

Oooooh, I just noticed this thread. I know you said you were gonna start it, Scuba, but there was this other thread on airplanes and treadmills I was involved in… Anyway, a couple comments:

I wonder if teams might do better if they decided before the Race what strategy they’d employ in certain situations. For example: how to decide which Detour choice is the best; or when taking risks to gain time is worth it, or under what circumstances to stop and ask directions. Thinking about some contingencies beforehand would reduce the stress during the Race, it seems. (We might see if this is true next season, when All-Stars are Racing).

OK, I disagree with this, but hear me out: I don’t see any reason, in certain circumstances, not to help other teams. For example, I’ve seen teams, at the beginning of an eight-hour airport wait, pointedly not point newly-arrived teams to the correct ticket counter. Jeez, they’re gonna figure it out themselves in like ten minutes! If you help other teams, you’ll occasionally be paid back, so if it’s no effort, why not?

I’d modify this rule to: Help other teams if doing so doesn’t hurt you; if it will hurt you, Hell no. That’s essentially combining folding in the spirit of this rule:
