Discussion thread for the "Polls only" thread (Part 1)

Heh heh.

For the 5 item dinner - it would completely depend on who did the cooking. My brewing partner and I both had expressed dislike for a couple of items, so a chef friend invited us to dinner, serving both items. Lisa and I almost came to blows as to who got the last of each of the items. This was the chef’s way of showing that it wasn’t the item but the prep we disliked. So definitely an “Other” vote.

The brand-new suburban house my family moved into in 1977 had a septic tank. It was on a half-acre lot so the neighbors weren’t too far away, but the general area was not very densely populated. Basically nothing but open land to the west of our house.

By the time my parents moved out in 2000, there was sprawl as far as the eye could see. Not an inch of undeveloped land for many miles. They still had the septic then, but it would be Interesting to know if my old ‘hood ever did get a sewer system.

Good grief. I didn’t even see that when I wrote it.

Guess I didn’t look deeply enough at what I was typing.

– if I really can’t stand the item, I’m not going to make a fuss about it, but I’m not going to eat it; if only for fear that it might come back up all over the table. I suppose in silenus’s sort of example I might try a miniscule bit. ETA: if it did come back up all over the table, the chef was sort of asking for it.

It would also be interesting to know if they ever tested the area groundwater. Half an acre is on the scant side; if soils perk really well the septic systems may all appear to be draining just fine, but the accumulation may be contaminating the area.

Ditto. And it’s usually not a question of preparation, it’s usually ingredients. I avoid anything with cooked bell peppers, or more than a minuscule amount of hot pepper.

I’m not going to eat your damned mushrooms no matter how many times you ask.

Ever seen that Bill Burr bit about lotion?

I think the lotion poll is missing an important answer as to why many people might have lotion on their bedside table. Or maybe that would fall under “just when I have a particular reason”.

Oh yeah, I forgot the hand lotion. Though that’s only on top of the nightstand sometimes; sometimes it’s one of the things inside That Drawer.

There’s also a tube in each bathroom, on the kitchen table, and behind the computer monitor. I don’t use them all every day, but I want one handy* when my hands are bugging me.

*yes I did notice that one.

We do have one neighborhood near me that is on well water. However, it’s a relatively old neighborhood, probably older than all the neighborhoods around it.

They have to put up signs about it so people don’t report their use of sprinklers

I think of lube and lotion as different things. Although I can’t be sure. as I don’t use either.

I have separate containers for lube and lotion. Well, i don’t actually use lotion, but i use creams and ointments on dry itchy skin. Those are usually oil-based, whereas lube is water-based, with a gel to thicken it.

It costs money to hook up to the main and the water costs money from then on. That’s probably more of a factor.

At least until their well pump breaks down –

I’m assuming by “dealing with snow” the poll means you still get to experience snow when you’d like to, just without all the BS of shoveling and clearing off your car and spinning out on the freeway. So snow is the obvious choice.

I :hearts: snow. But you mighta guessed that from my avatar.

All the more for me.

Seriously, though, if you’re an adult and you say you don’t like something there will be no cajoling or sneaking the item into a dish from me. I look askance at people whose life-mission becomes trying to get you to like said item.

My Aunt, bless her, does this. “Oooh you don’t like olives? You just haven’t had the right olives. Let’s find you the perfect olive.”

I actually like snow, but unfortunately I live in a place where any type of precipitation, especially snow, apparently makes everyone else forget how to drive.

“There are only a few mushrooms in it.” is my favorite. Or not my favorite, as it may be.
