Discussion thread for the "Polls only" thread (Part 1)

Yeah. I have a well and septic. Every single home in my town has a well and septic.

In November there was a huge survey about town planning on election night, and this week I asked for and was provided a summary of the results. One of the things that garnered the least interest was having the town consider public water and sewer.

So, you think you can find me one that’s not salty? Or oily? And maybe tastes like chocolate?

Well, there’s spam egg sausage and spam, that’s not got much spam in it.

I want to continue to deal both with the post office and with snow.

I like snow, at the right time of year; and at the right time of year and in the right places, it’s beneficial: protects plants under it, adds a bit of nitrogen, holds moisture until the ground thaws and can absorb it.

And I certainly don’t want the post office to disappear; I both send and get mail. Less than I used to, but enough to be significant in my life.

If I didn’t deal with the Post Office, I couldn’t take part in postcard exchanges or shot glass exchanges or Christmas card exchanges, or…

I frakking hate snow. (So of course we are predicted to get buried in it Thursday/Friday!)

I said other on the sheet poll, because I would have to ask my housekeeper :slightly_smiling_face: But I don’t think she washes them that often.

My wife is pretty firm that we change the sheets weekly. She still talks about how grossed out she was when we first started dating and realized I didn’t change my sheets nearly that often.

I aim for about every two weeks; but it isn’t exact. And I suspect I more often go over than under; so as there wasn’t any “about 14 days” option I picked “15 to 20”. I think it’s pretty rare for it to be as much as 20, though; and sometimes it is 14 or less. Depends on the weather, on which days I can be home and not entirely buried in something else, and occasionally on whether a cat puked on the bed.

Snow sucks. What’s the big deal about the post office?

Our local post office is understaffed, with long lines. The one guy who’s always working there doesn’t seem to mind. He is chatting endlessly with everyone while slowly doing whatever it is they need.

My wife and I fight over who has to go pick up a package.

By and large, i like both snow and post offices.

Our house in NJ had had a septic tank, but the rules changed and the some of the municipalities surrounding the lake decided having failing septic systems near the lake was not a good thing. We sold that house more than 20 years ago, and there are still people with septic sytems near the lake.

If I have something I don’t like, but feel I have to eat it, I will take a small bite of it, then a bite of something I like, and so on.

As my grandmother’s name was Rose, I choose Sophia. I met a little girl named Sophie the last time I was in the U.S. - I guess the name is becoming popular again.

I don’t have to go very often but when I do I find it to be a not very difficult or annoying errand. Sometimes it’s busy sometimes it’s not. Doesn’t bother me at all. Snow is always miserable. The post office takes 10 minutes out of my day. Snow screws it up for several days sometimes

I really like my post office. And they almost always have one guy just for non-monetary transactions

I’d forgotten about having going to the P.O. to pick up a package. I haven’t had to do it in such a long time…even before covid. But when I had to, I hated it, because it was the teeny tiny little P.O. near me that held my packages. And there was one really sour old (he was over 70) man who was the only one there 90% of the time. He was always bitching and moaning and cussing like a sailor. That was when he was there. I’d often go during normal hours, and he’d be closed for some reason or other. I hate making a special trip when it’s a waste. I was friendly to him and listened to his griping, so he was usually pretty nice to me (‘nice’ being a relative term). But it was stressful.

I want to change my sheets every week, but it’s usually two by the time I get around to it or when I can get to the washer before my sister.

I’d estimate that we have to do it at least 6 times per year. Sometimes certified mail, more often a package.

It used to be like that for me…maybe even more often than that. But I live in a condo complex, and maybe it’s easier for the P.O. to just bring packages to us. I think we often have a different person delivering parcels from the person delivering the letter mail, so they don’t have packages piling up in the closet-sized P.O.

Post offices I think vary widely. I’ve never had to wait very long; and I’ve never been treated nastily.

This is the only one I’ve ever seen where the sole worker was so rude. Definitely an outlier.

I do too. I even used to love shoveling it, until I damaged my back doing something else. Now, I must choose to live in spaces where someone else shovels. What I don’t love is windchill.

I also don’t mind the post office. This, and the previous place I lived, had helpful, friendly staff with only one exception. It does help to be able to go there at less than popular hours.
