Discussion thread for the "Polls only" thread (Part 1)

I’ve posted some “no other options” poll. My reason for doing so is to push people into deciding where they stand on an issue. A lot of times people can equivocate on any issue and look for some choice that allows them to cover all possible options.

I understand that the choice between chocolate and vanilla can depend on the circumstances. You might like one more than the other depending on what it’s being used for. Your decision might depend on the quality of the flavoring that’s available. Maybe you choose differently depending on your mood or for the sake of variety. These are all legitimate points.

But when you’re standing at the front of a long line at the ice cream stand, you need to pick one and move on.

My favorite bagel choice (back before I cut back on the carbs) was cream cheese and cheez-whiz.

Yes, I am white trash.

I hope these people are just embracing irony and not actually supporting Fillmore’s policies, which were pretty deplorable.

I didn’t vote in that one, because what i really want is for trump to get out of politics and for the Republican party to become sane. And I’m not convinced that trump going to prison even helps.

Judging by the Acronym, I should hope so.

A fellow history nerd and I like to joke about founding a Society for Deservedly Obscure Presidents. Not a funny acronym, but Fillmore would definitely be among those thus “honored.”

Which of course brings to mind this Simpsons clip:

which makes me think of They Might Be Giants

Re: the NFL draft poll, i can’t imagine any GM taking a deal like that.
Though teams routinely trade for future draft picks, they’re usually for one or two years out.
Are there any sports nerds here who know the furthest out a future pick has been traded?

Draft pick trades are limited to three years out. Beyond that, teams can’t trade future picks.

I think their main goal is to try to trick newspapers into printing the acronym.

Or just step out of line, empty handed. It’s effective, too.

“Step out of line, empty handed.” I don’t understand. It’s an ice cream line.

Who are these “grilled cheese” people? The BLT is infinitely superior, especially with thin-sliced home grown tomatoes fresh from the garden and a liberal application of Duke’s.

Agreed. The BLT is simply the perfect sandwich.

Now you got me questioning myself.

mmm

Mmmm. I voted for the grilled cheese because while not impossible, it’s really hard to screw up. Even mediocre cheese and bread will make an okay GC, while great ingredients are a thing of wonder.

With a BLT - well, it is also a thing of wonder with great ingredients, but once you get to middling… yeah, it gets crappy fast. Flavorless store tomatoes, limp lettuce, miracle whip, bacon so cheap it only tastes of salt, and the same risk of flavorless bread a GC has.

So all in all, the GC edged out the win for me due to the reduced quality variance - but if we were talking about all the variables (beyond a poll only question) it would get a LOT more nuanced.

I’m not a fan of tomatoes on a sandwich. (I can tolerate them, but not a fan) Also, BLT’s usually have mayo, which I despise.

A BLT is a summer sandwich, for eating when fresh homegrown tomatoes are in season. Since it is currently autumn in the northern hemisphere and good tomatoes are not in season, a grilled cheese is the better choice.
