Discussion thread for the "Polls only" thread (Part 1)

Looks like cafe kitty has a slight lead over sex.

My replies assumed the choices weren’t necessarily indulged in simultaneously. Maybe some people were thinking that they don’t want to have sex in a café, but were quite willing to combine ice cream and/or cake and/or bacon and/or nachos with petting feline kitty in public?

ETA: What country and climate is this workplace in? Do workers customarily sit on the floor? Do workers spend nearly all their time sitting? Is there an exemption for orthopedic shoes? Are heavy indoor slippers allowed? Is the area immediately outside often muddy, covered with horseshit, etc.?

Discretion requires I resist the obvious observation….

Surprising to me that James Bond only has 19% at the moment.

Didn’t recognize the name Elihu Nivens, but I Googled it and then naturally voted for him. Love that book!

Unfortunately omitted from the Big List o’ Fictional Spies: Sterling Archer, Julian Bashir, Ethan Hunt and Jack Ryan.

Y’all sleeping on calamari, that’s all I gotta say. I like sex, I like petting cats, but a good plate of crispy-fried calamari with marinara is a rare treat.

The most common transcription of Bush’s “fool me once” speech, including in TIME and Wikipedia, is: “Fool me — you can’t get fooled again”. However, to me, it sounds like: “The fooled man can’t get fooled again!”

I don’t have a favorite W quote.

There was a time when I thought he was the worst President of my lifetime. Especially by the end of his second term, however, he was a freakin’ model of enlightened statesmanship compared to one of his orange successors.

I hated (well, maybe strongly disliked) Natalie. I stopped watching Monk after she came on for the most part.

No, no, the saying goes, “Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me eight or more times…”

I voted for the spies based on hotness alone.

I probably should have voted “Other” for the tipping, but I generally start from 20% and round up or increase if there was extra difficulty involved.

For the vacuuming, I end up moving the furniture every few times just because moving things is the only way I ever clean a room completely. And although I appreciate the option to specify time periods, I’m taking the 5th about how often each of those “few times” comes around.

And finally, I change the cabin air filter when someone tells me to. That used to be the people at Jiffy Lube (and then they’d tell me they didn’t have it in stock, so I’d end up going to the parts store), but now the cars tell me themselves.

I feel like there’s guidance in the manual for routine maintenance that probably includes that filter. If it does, i follow it. If it doesn’t, i never change it.

Every X miles, a light on my dashboard tells me to take the car in for an oil change. Based on the mileage, the mechanic may recommend other maintenance procedures. I do whatever the manual recommends doing.

I always take my current car to the dealer for scheduled maintenance (It’s the first car I ever bought brand new so I want to take care of it). I assume if changing the cabin air filter was recommended as part of that scheduled maintenance they would do it. But I have never personally changed it. Although I’m not entirely sure the Miata has a cabin air filter at all. I mean it wouldn’t really do much in a convertible.

On my previous car I did do all the maintenance myself, and I changed the cabin air filter exactly once during the time I owned it.

I’ve always tipped 15%, rounded up.

Get Smart. It’s been so long since I last read comic books that I had to Google the one from SHIELD.

Who are Archer and Hunt? Didn’t know Bashir was a spy. And I only know Ryan from Red October and Patriot Games – didn’t seem much like a secret agent to me.

Never heard of them.

I always take off my shoes at home, but wouldn’t want to in an office. (Not that I would want to work in an office…)

Domingo Chavez

  • Domingo “Ding” Chavez: born and raised in Los Angeles, Chavez enlisted in the United States Army to escape street life. While on a covert operation against a drug cartel in Colombia, he meets Clark, who becomes his mentor. He is then recruited into the CIA as an operations officer, and is usually paired with his eventual father-in-law on several covert missions. When Clark becomes head of Rainbow, Chavez is assigned as leader of one of the counterterror organization’s two assault teams. After retiring from the CIA and Rainbow, Chavez joins The Campus as an operations officer, later acquiring a senior status.

I live in the woods. I get my cabin filter replaced once the field mice have destroyed the current one, which works out to about once a year.

Get Smart had Agent 99; Midnight Avenger had Agent 13

Just a PSA about cabin filters. I brought my vehicle in for some work and the mechanic advised me to change the filter. Cost: $99.

I declined and bought one from Amazon for $7.99. Installing it took literally 3 minutes.

mmm

I’m over 60 and myopic, so I can read just fine without glasses, and always have. Can’t see a damn thing without my distance glasses though.
