Discussion thread for the "Polls only" thread (Part 1)

Ah. I definitely had the wrong Sutton; which isn’t surprising.

Gerry Cheevers was a goalie, and, yes, for the Bruins (don’t know if he played for another team).

When the Black Watch pipes & drums toured the States in '76 one of the tunes they played was “Take Me Home, Country Roads”. And I used to have a tape of somebody’s police pipe band – somewhere in Texas, I think – playing the theme from Dallas.

In what way ?

Oh, never mind, my bad. I was not familiar with the song “There’s a Ghost in My House”. I thought you were thinking of somebody else, perhaps a host of some ghost-hunter type TV show.

I included him in my list - made up of childhood memories - because his was the first album I ever bought.

Sorry!

mmm

That’s the only reason i’ve heard of him !

I’m surprised that so far half the respondents to my own “names you recognize” poll know who Adrian Edmondson is. Then again, this might be because most of those who don’t know who he is are probably still asleep.

So far, yes. I’m disappointed in myself that I didn’t know the actor’s name.

The only way I want to hear Amazing Grace is on bagpipes.

We used to sing Amazing Grace before meals at summer camp. It was one of about 10-15 songs we rotated through. I think that was a compromise between the director wanting us to say grace before means and not wanting to be overtly Christian. Another was “Johnny Appleseed”.

lyrics

Oh, the Lord’s been good to me
And so i thank the Lord
For giving me
The things i need
The sun and the rain and the appleseed
The Lord’s been good to me

Amazing grace was my favorite. I still enjoy it. I don’t especially associate it with funerals.

Weird.

OK, now I see that “Ghost” (1967) reached #3 in the U.K. but apparently did not even chart in the U.S.

“Indiana Wants Me”, which is the reason I bought that album, was #1 in the U.S. in 1970. It reached #2 in the U.K.

Are you in the U.K.?

mmm

Who doesn’t know Vyvyan Basterd?

Yes ! And that is almost certainly the reason.
(I don’t remember the Indiana song. I see that it was a bit earlier, before i started
hearing chart music (when i started high school (my dad was a complete square - classical
music only at home !)))

I was in love with Rik!

This house will become a shrine, and punks and skins and rastas will all gather round and hold their hands in sorrow for their fallen leader. And all the grown-ups will say: “But why are the kids crying?” And the kids will say: “Haven’t you heard? Rik is dead! The People’s Poet is dead!”

I like bagpipes when occasionally.

With a mazurka

A bit surprised that only 18% recognized Gul Dukat, given all the Trekkies we have around here.

Gul Dukat was in one of the polls? If I had noticed, I would have recognized him.

I went to the Maryland Ren Fair a few years ago. I didn’t get it.

I assume Putin would cheat somehow, and I’m sure he’s full of KGB dirty tricks, but he is also almost twice Zelensky’s age. I’m leaning towards Draw.

I’m going with Zelensky of course. How could a 70-year old guy possibly beat a 45-year old, especially given Putin’s health issues lately?

I’d put my money on a 70 year old Jack Lalanne, but he’s an extreme example.
