Not only do I keep my physical music alpha by artist and then by release date, I keep my mp3s in folders that I then sort the same way.
I’d go with the teleportation. Even if it’s only 20 meters at a time, I assume I could do it like a thousand times in a row in quick succession, like in one second? Which is then 20 kilometers.
And if not, it still would give me free access to a lot of things. I could teleport myself onto any airplane at the airport (although it might cause trouble if the flight attendants demand to see my plane ticket.)
You appear to have missed this bit :-
teleportation, but only up to twenty metres, and never through obstacles
But, given all the limitations, the teleportation seems to be the obvious choice.
I went with the telepathy with small children. I’m convinced that most tantrums children have before they’re able to communicate clearly with adults arise from frustration, and I might be able to help.
The teleportation was a little tempting, but for that unimpeded distance, I should just get the exercise.
I’d need to know whether the teleportation can be repeated multiple times in quick succession; and whether each use is fatiguing. Also I’d like to know whether I can carry anything, and whether if I do this in public view it’s going to cause consternation and/or possibly serious consequences to me. (And, if I can’t carry anything, whether that includes my clothes --)
For that matter, would flying tire me out, and how much if anything could I carry, and will I freak out anybody who’s in sight?
– my heart no longer lets me walk as far or as fast as I wish, and either of those, if I can carry some tools, would at least make it a lot easier to get around the farm. But if I’m going to utterly freak out any neighbor who sees me, or be just as exhausted as I would otherwise, then they’re not much use; though the flying would be kind of fun, and I can sometimes be fairly sure nobody’s in sight at the moment.
I didn’t vote in the super power poll. They all seemed pretty crappy.
They were all pretty lightweight, but as someone who walks the dog 2 or 3 times a day in the winter, occasionally in temperatures close to 0, “withstand extreme heat or cold, but only while remaining motionless” was better than nothing. I mean, I’m choosing extreme cold to be in that range, granted.
Yeah, I have a three year old with communication delays. This was a no-brainer.
Invisibility is so cool, who cares if there’s an unexplained sound and odor?
Well, you wouldn’t really get to observe people in every day life. They’d all be looking around going “What the hell is that?”
I could do a lot with floating a meter above the ground, especially if it also works over water.
As for when i refrigerate my leftovers:
- After dinner, because I’m hungry now
- After dinner, so i know what’s leftover
- After dinner, because that’s part of cleaning up after dinner
- After dinner, because nothing actually spoils that fast. Well, if it does, i put it back in the freezer as soon as I’ve scooped my ice cream. But nothing I’ve cooked spoils fast enough to matter.
Probably some other reasons.
After dinner, because it doesn’t take that long for me to eat and I’m hungry now, and also it’s my husband’s responsibility to pack up leftovers anyway. I do 100% of the cooking so it’s the least he can do. And let’s be honest, if it were on me, I’d forget half the time.
Whilst I fill my pockets.
Yeah, I’ve only had the Dole Whip at Disneyland. My favorite dessert is ice cream, so I eat it on average once or twice a week. I’m trying to reserve it for “weekends” only (weekends is in scare quotes because I’m retired), but I’ll occasionally eat some during the week. I get some ice cream online…usually McConnell’s (a Santa Barbara CA based company). I like their ice cream, but the flavors usually stocked by the market are not my favorites, so I’ll get my favs online.
I think we may be overlooking the fact that any of these powers could earn us some nice spending money via bar bets or streetcorner performances.
mmm
The teleportation one scares me. If the genie is incompetent, would he think to eliminate the shockwave that would occur if a solid mass were to disappear from one place and reappear in another?
Never heard of Dole Whip, but it sounds good. I like most things pineapple.
Jeez, those are some lame-ass superpowers!
I still have a coupla hundred CDs, grouped more or less by genre, but no more specifically than that. I have no LPs, although my eldest son has really gotten into vinyl.
I love ice cream but don’t crave it, and sometimes go months without having any. I tend to eat it during the summer, but will happily have it any time. I once visited a college friend who had ice cream with his family every single night, which a bit too much for me. And yes, they were all a bit plump, why do you ask?
As an American, I think words should end -or and not -our, but I understand and accept that our British friends do it differently. Whatevs.
Buc-ees, which silenus, Maserschmidt and Velocity praised upthread, is discussed here:
Both of those.
Anything that actually might spoil that fast gets put away before I eat; but mostly that would be icecream, which I wouldn’t want to melt, or something that’s subject to spoilage that is for whatever reason already partly cooled when I dish it out.
And I leave the leftovers out until I’ve eaten in case I want seconds; because otherwise I’m going to take too much to start with. If I know I’ve got seconds handy and still warm in case I still want them, then I won’t take as much.
I tend to have my music sorted by what I was in the mood for recently. If I had (or used to have) larger collections than I do (or ever did), that probably wouldn’t work. But part of the fun is flipping through – what do I want to hear right now?
I don’t think I’ve ever seen a Buc-ee’s.
I’ve always thought that the only way teleportation could work is if it SWAPS the sending and receiving volume.
