Discussion thread for the "Polls only" thread (Part 1)

Yes, words should always end in -our rather than -or. I abhour such Americanisms.

Just the other day I was having some visitours (a sculptour, an illustratour, and a finacial advisour) and needed to get some supplies to clean my floour, so I grabbed a soda from the refrigeratour, left my house by the back doour and got in my motour car and pressed the acceleratour. To my horrour and terrour, I suddenly saw an anchour lying in the road! I swerved off the road and crashed. Then the car wouldn’t start, so I took it to a shop and they said there was a problem with the alternatour, but they only had an inferiour brand in stock. When I looked in the mirrour I saw that I had broken an incisour and my back was hurting too, so I went to my doctour. He said I was fine, but I think he was in errour. When I was leaving, I briefly talked to the building janitour and he said a similar thing had happened to him, but he had to swerve because of an alligatour in the road. I’m going to write our call the mayour and complain about these majour problems on the roads, although I’m poour and can’t afford a lawyer. I swear by our Creatour that our ancestours never had such problems.

One of our local New England ice cream stands is part of a larger farming operation, and they still serve ice cream indoors if you want it throughout the year along with poultry, eggs, and other dairy products.

We have a Cold Stone Creamery right down the road. Wonder if I can convince my husband to get some ice cream today. He can’t have any, poor fellow. He gets the one flavor of sorbet, whatever that is.

A friend of mine is a dor fellow, except when he’s practicing parkor. He will do it for hors on end.

I’m not saying that’s extreme. It seems perfectly reasonable to me. It is, however, about 50 times more than my consumption. (my estimate is that I eat ice cream two to three times per year)

When I was working in San Jose my boss was a Palo Alto native – born, raised, went to Stanford, and bought a home there after he started making money. It was on a short cul de sac and it was one of those that went all-out with the Christmas decorations and the first holiday one of the neighbor asked what he intended to do for Christmas.
“Nuthin’.”
“What do you mean, nuthin’?”
“I don’t ‘do’ Christmas.”
“You gotta do something!”
“No I don’t.”

So his house was the only dark one on the block and partway through the season someone put a sign in front, Scrooge lives here.

The next year he put up his own sign, Bah, humbug.
“You can’t do that!”
“Oh, yes I can!”
and the next year he had a bigger sign, with chase lights.

Things escalated from there until after a while his house was as lit up as the rest only they were all anti-Christmas decorations.

Every man has a price. Mine happens to be ice cream.

Are there really folks who believe ice cream should be eaten only in the summer?

mmm

Some specialty ice cream shops will also sell you icecream packed to take back home.

– I didn’t check “make your own” because it’s been a whole lot of years since I did, but wow was that good icecream. Maybe I’ll do it again sometime. But I’m not sure that I still have a functional ice cream maker.

I sort my albums in alphabetical order by artist, and then they aren’t sorted otherwise. I figure I can find them.

We stop for ice cream once or twice a summer at a local place called Sweeties, but we call it Sweaties.

They serve something my gf always orders called a Dole Whip. She was shocked to learn that I’d never heard of a Dole Whip. It must be popular in certain locations. She had them growing up but I never knew they existed until I met her.

I’ve only seen those in Hawaii.

They are elsewhere as well.

Really!?!? Wait till I tell her this.

Heresy! Ice cream should (nay! must!) be eaten year round!

Have I mentioned I might have a problem?

With vinyl & cds, i group them by artist, but don’t sort them.

Ice cream ? Yes. Now.

I have around 1,200 LPs and maybe 600 CDs, sorted by artist, then release date.

If I thought one of them was in the wrong slot I think I could still function, but I wouldn’t want to test it.

mmm

That would just be so wrong. Ice cream sales go through the roof up here in MN when the temperatures get below 0F. They are a regular hockey game treat too.

Dole Whip is delicious and oh, so hard to find in my non-pineapple part of the country.

Some years ago I heard on the radio an interview with someone at Dreyer’s Ice Cream. The interviewer guessed here in Phoenix their sales were highest in the summer and he said not really – most folks are looking for something more liquidy for refreshment then like lemonade or a soda. Their peak sales are in spring and fall with summer and winter close together but some behind the other two.

Ice Cream - Rare treat, or comfort food purchased for the wife. Myself? 1/2 Gallon from the store 95+% of the time (otherwise on vacation), maybe 3-4 such purchases a year. Probably twice that for my wife.

Dole Whip though, my wife loves it, but makes her own with coconut milk and frozen pineapple in our Powwwwwahhhh! Blender.

CD organization - moot. I own many, probably 300+. Previously they were arranged as soundtracks and then everything else. But for 2 decades now it’s get, rip to mp4, and then put in a drawer. Once it’s ripped, it doesn’t matter where the physical copy is.
