Carbonated prune juice!

And delicious. For this former diet soda drinker, a real Dr. Pepper was a rare treat. But now that I’m off diet soda, I drink it more often. Wishing I could quit the expensive-in-more-ways-than-one habit. It’s bad, bad, bad, but oh so good.

I’m pretty sure that’s an urban myth.

It is~so declares google.

Missing sitcoms:
Hyperdrive
It Ain’t Half Hot Here, Mum

If you’ve ever had prune juice, you would know how wrong that is!

When I worked at 6 Flags in the food department, I usually worked the drinks.

Dr. Pepper has a much stronger smell than the other sodas. The first couple of days I worked I was queasy from the smell. And had a nightmare about pulling Dr. Pepper all night.

I paid off the last of my student loans, and as of now have zero debt.

I wish I had debt, but I don’t because the housing market is so crazy I’m basically stuck in my current house with nothing better on the market within 100k of what I could afford to pay. The average home price in my county went from 282k to 432k in less than 4 years. I don’t know about you, but my income hasn’t increased 53%.

I wouldn’t tell Mrs. Pepper if I were you.

mmm

In grade school I remember hearing the joke: “why does Dr Pepper come in a bottle?” “Because his wife died”.

I didn’t know what “come” could mean and that joke confused me. Of course, I laughed.

aurora_maire, I was going to add a note here after that final ballpark poll. My computer glitched and I lost the original poll, so had to rebuild it again, by which time I was a bit annoyed and just wanted to go to bed.

Even now after checking the cities/teams of the things, I still couldn’t tell you where about half of them are located/which teams play in them. The biggest issue is the bland generic nature of so many of these brands: I mean how the hey am I going to keep straight say Citizens Bank Park or Comerica Park? It doesn’t help that about half have changed their names since they were built.

“Hey, we’re headed out to Guarantee Rate Field to catch a game” just doesn’t seem that exciting. When I read through the list of ballfields, I was reminded that when this all started, my friends joked that we would soon have Little Debbie Snack Cake Park. I was going to include that in my options, but checked to make sure there wasn’t one (you never know) and there is a Little Debbie Park. But it’s a theme park with cake stuff.

If you actually test how much sky the moon takes up at the horizon vs. high in the sky – I use my thumb at arm’s length – it will actually be the same width. And while the moon’s apparent size does vary in its elliptical orbit – today’s annular eclipse proves that – those breathless “supermoon” headlines that appear every time it happens to be full and at perigee at the same time are click-bait. The size difference is detected only by careful measurement.

Debt:
The house and two autos are both paid for so there’s no debt there, but…

Thanks to two expensive bits needing replacing on my daily driver just a month before the expected expense of going to Burning Man, I have a little over $4,000 on my credit card right now and it will take a few months to bail that out.

On top of that, I ordered a travel trailer last year with the expectation of having it complete its build and the final payment after the $5,000 deposit to be after January 1st. Since I was 72 last year I was planning on using the proceeds from the mandatory draw-down of my IRA to pay for that. The problem is, Pfizer has been sending my arthritis medicine for free under the patient assistance program, but if my annual income rises too much, that’ll be cut back. The three planned hits to the IRA, the deposit last year, another this year stowed in savings, and the final next year, make for only a moderate rise, but the trailer company suddenly said a couple weeks ago that the construction had started with the completion estimate the first week in November.

I think I’ll get a bridge loan to cover it until after January starts.

I know it’s not prune juice. It’s just what us kids called it. It’s almond extract, right?

Did you see Neal Katyal???

A pea, it seems?

Yeah, pea is correct, and a rather small pea at that, depending on how long your arms are. The Moon subtends about a half a degree. The size of an object at arm’s length that subtends the same angle is your arm’s length multiplied by the sine of half a degree (.0087). If the distance between your eye and your hand is between 20 and 30 inches, the object would be between 0.17 and 0.26 inches. Most people think the Moon’s apparent size is much larger than it actually is, as evidenced by the poll results.

The one set of sitcoms I am a bit surprised to see zero love for are the Lucille Ball ones. If this poll was given 50 years ago, I am certain that they (there were two that I spied, the one with her husband Desi Arnaz, then the work-com with Gale Gordon as her boss) would have finished MUCH higher. I suspect that it is mainly due to a solid dose of Lucy Is Unfunny, even tho she and her colleagues helped codify a lot of the tropes, memes, and filming/scriptwriting/production techniques that subsequent sitcoms employed. Lucy at the end of her life was given almost reverential treatment (at award shows and such), but she now seems like a forgotten relic.

I have nothing against her personally, and can appreciate her historical role in the industry. I just don’t find her shows funny at all.

It is. No Prunes were harmed in the making of Dr Pepper.

I drink cold brew ice tea and Sodastream diet Pepsi in the morning, then just bubbly water after. Once in a while I will turn to a Diet DrP just for a change.

In the 5% genie poll, I saw that i was with everyone else. All of us old fogies i guess.

But I was disappointed in SDMB favorite sitcoms. Seinfeld? Really?!?

Okay. MASH, sure, But Frasier?

Not Barney Miller? BlackAdder/ The Good place?

I would have voted for Newsradio but there was The Dick ruining it.

Uh… what?

Or is that a whoosh?

He was at Burning Man. He made several news shows because he was one of the ones who hiked out in the mud.

Or do you not know who Neal Katyal is?
