Discussion thread for the "Polls only" thread (Part 1)

I don’t know if this was intentionally meant to be funny, but it made me laugh.

I like @thorny_locust 's solution for the manic car buyer. If you tell him no, he’s likely to go another dealer and buy the cars there. This way you can make him happy without having to tell him ‘no’ outright.

My recall of the story is that McLain knocked Pepitone on his ass.

There wasn’t an option for “I’ll take one only if you give it to me for free.”
I suppose that counts as “Under $10,000,” so I chose that, but it’d have to be way under. And you’d have to install the charger in my garage at no cost too.

I have a feeling these things are going to be white elephants, practically unsellable in a few years. I might be wrong, but at least if I didn’t have to pay for it I can make a few bucks selling it for scrap metal when I get tired of it and/or the thing breaks down.

Except that I would take it if you gave it to me – I just wouldn’t keep it, I’d promptly re-sell it.

Oh. I can’t answer that without spending a lot more time finding out about the vehicle. I knew nothing about it before I saw the poll, and basically just took about a 30-second look on line. I didn’t even figure out that it was oversized; just that the truck bed appeared to me in the picture to be rather the reverse.

Have you tried Barritt’s?

It happened during McLain’s 31st win. I don’t think he was worried about ruining his season.

AJ Stephans Ginger Beer. Accept nothing less.

A good friend of mine worked for Tesla, as a customer-service rep, for two years. Not only did the company reneg on several promises, related to the job, which they made to my friend when they hired him, but he found it to be a completely toxic corporate culture, and that they routinely failed to live up to expectations that they had set up for their customers, as well.

I rolled all of that into “Issues with Elon Musk” when I answered the poll, reasoning that a fair amount of that corporate culture comes down from him. Also, it’s a really ugly truck:

I picked “rice” because I’d usually go for rice, and I definitely wouldn’t go for noodles. But occasionally, depending on the stirfry, my mood, what’s in the house, and what’s in the house that’s fast to get ready, it’ll be something else altogether.

I’d take the truck, but only if I could use it for warthog jumping.

We sometimes just have stir fry, and don’t put it over anything.

Yeah, that’s another possibility. I’ll often (also?) have it as a veggie side dish.

Thanks, and thanks to @Little_Nemo for the Barritt’s recommendation. I’ve never noticed either of these brands, but I’ll look for them.

I don’t understand why anyone would refuse a free car becuase they thought the CEO was an asshole.

Many Americans buy cars made in China, and the boss of bosses there is a communist Dictator.

And the infrastructure for a Tesla is fantastic.

A assume those “promises” were not in writing?

My nephew worked for Tesla, coding self driving features. He liked it, and supported Musk and the Twitter purchase longer than anyone else i know.

As I mentioned upthread, infrastructure was shorthand for all the physical issues with having or getting the vehicle, for folks who don’t have a garage, or one which wouldn’t fix, or (like myself right now) would have to rewired half their house to get a charger installed, or so on and so forth.

And sure, they’re people who will buy things in China because they’re cheap, or they have no other feasible option, despite not approving of China’s government, but there are a decent number who refuse to do so if they can avoid it as well. It also borrows the verbiage from our multiple Musk/Cybertruck/EV purchase threads where people can acknowledge the value of BEVs and even Teslas, but the thought of supporting, or even being seen as supporting Musk outweighs the value when there are other options available.

Onto Stir Fry options!

I picked “it depends”. If I’m making an Asian, or Asian fusion stir fry, I’ll go with rice or Trader Joe’s Whole Wheat udon, or even rice vermicelli depending on time or inclination. The noodle options are normally easier than making rice, since I don’t have a rice cooker anymore (stored it when I started low carbing a while back, and if I want it I just make it in a pot) - and has far less cleanup and water waste compared to rinsing rice. But if I want rice, and I often do, I’ll make it.

For various Mexican-inspired stir fries, well, mostly tortillas, corn or flour, if not just served plain on a plate, or over a green salad (jalapano-onion-lime fish stir-fry over a mixed green salad is amazing).

For Indian inspired stir-fries, well, rarely basmati (for the same reasons of the extra steps) or over saag, or on top of a fresh (purchased or griddled) flatbread.

Does he still?

No. He was making excuses about how Musk was better for Tesla than for Twitter last i talked to him.

Like other people, I fell into the gap between “I wouldn’t take one if you gave it to me” and “I’d pay up to $10,000”.

I have no real desire for a Cybertruck and wouldn’t pay nine thousand dollars for one. But I’d take one if it was offered to me for free.

Yeah, same here. I got no way to charge it at home, but there are superchargers not far. Or just sell it.
