Discussion thread for the "Polls only" thread (Part 1)

There was a big gulf between the giftwrapping Jedi Master and giving up. But I’m pretty good at gift wrapping, even if i use more than two pieces of tape on weird shapes. So I voted that.

It looks much harder than it really is. It’s actually easier than the normal technique. Use striped wrapping paper and it looks incredible

I always forget to post this in early December.

I’m great at wrapping boxes but there is always a cat hair or two under the tape.

Wow! That looks lovely.

Yeah, I couldn’t vote for the top category, but I don’t think odd shapes are the be-all end-all of present wrapping. I always get compliments on the creativity and beauty of my wrapping. I consider it a worthy craft.

I know one Trump supporter in real life and I do not think well of them at all, for reasons that have nothing to do with politics. I do know one person who voted for Trump in 2016 that I don’t disrespect, but they deeply regret it, especially after the children in cages thing.

My grandmother is a Trump supporter who is deeply flawed in her politics and social attitudes, but I think highly of her in all the ways that mattered to my life. I did not have a nurturing mother - she was the closest I was gonna get. In that respect, I think she is a goddamn saint. She never based her love for me on my political or religious affiliation. When my son was born and everything shut down due to COVID and my husband’s father decided to fuck off with no notice rather than fulfill the commitment that he had made, my grandmother drove two hours each way to watch my kid long enough for us to find some childcare and not lose our jobs. She has extended just as much love and support to my son as she ever did to me. I hope everybody gets the chance to experience having that one person you know is in your corner no matter what. (I had two such people, but my Aunt’s a liberal.)

I have a few friends who voted for Trump, but i don’t think they support him, they voted for their idea of the lesser evil. There’s only one guy in my life that really enthusiastically supports Trump, and i don’t have a huge about of respect for him.

There are people i respect who support Trump, but they aren’t people I’m personally close to.

I have a very good friend whose Facebook page has become a wasteland of right-wing conspiracy garbage. Yet IRL he’s kind, generous, and non-judgmental, so I think highly of him for those qualities.

But he doesn’t really fit the question since he doesn’t support Trump. (He’s a dedicated third-party voter, which is a whole other subject.) And he lives in Texas and hates Greg Abbott. So there is hope for his soul.

I was the newspaper-and-duck-tape guy for a long time, but I’ve since at least bought real wrapping paper and clear tape. I’m great with boxes, just okay with other stuff. I try to avoid gift bags; I’ll use a whole roll of wrapping paper on something odd shaped if I have to, but it’s getting proper wrapped one way or another, even if the results ain’t pretty.

I’m a thousandaire

Ditto. After having done it to earn donations, I’m very good at wrapping, but I find it tedious and will put things in gift bags when I can.

I’m a multithousandaire !

I don’t wrap gifts especially well, but I get the job done.

I have a couple of Trump-supporting friends and I’m careful to avoid talking politics with them. They have many other redeeming characteristics. I also have some friends who I suspect are Trump supporters, and I’ve purposefully never asked them if they are. Love, or like, them as I do, I probably couldn’t help but think less of them if it turned out they’d drunk the MAGA Kool-Ade. I also have at least two older Republican friends who detest Trump; one even re-registered as a Democrat after 2016.

Highest floor I’ve been to would be whatever level the observation deck was at the original WTC. I don’t know which tower. Circa 1990.

I posted the tall building poll because I had a dream last night that I was on an elevator that went to the 37th floor and I was afraid to get off. Today I was thinking about the tallest building I’d been in - 100 North Main in Memphis. Years ago it had a revolving restaurant on the top. I looked it up online to see how tall it is and it’s 37 floors. What a coincidence! Apparently, I wasn’t afraid of heights back then. The idea of being a the top of a super tall building now makes my head feel weird.

I not only went up to the windows and looked around, I [jumped off]. (https://thestrat.com/attractions/skyjump?utm_source=gmb&utm_medium=yext)
It’s 829 feet down to the ground. I have video from my POV and from my friends waiting below. That was how I celebrated turning 50.

Anybody know why the link and title arent displaying correctly?

Went up to 124/125 in the Burj Khalifa and pressed my face to the window, and also went out on the observation deck. Fun!

The URL should be on its own line.

Ah, thanks. I thought the program would format it on its own.
