TIL of what3words’ London base. It makes sense then that it was used for QE2’s lying-in-state and the queue endpoint. On Sept 16 when the line was 4.9 miles and 14 hours long, the endpoint was navy.noises.overnight: Breaking - The Queen is unwell (has died): 8 Sep 2022 - #634 by Fiendish_Astronaut
I know there’s a McDonald’s not too far away, and Google maps tells me it’s 4.5 miles. I looked up two other chains on Google maps, and the nearest of each was a bit over 7 miles. So i voted based on the McDonald’s. But there might be something else closer in another direction. Maybe i should have voted “i don’t know”. There’s certainly nothing closer than a mile, that i would know.
I grew up with Dairy Queens all around.(Texas)
It was the burger joint in nearly every small town that wasn’t large enough for a McDonald’s. Their “ice cream” was just a dessert for a long time. It wasn’t until sometime in the 80s or 90s that they really started pushing the Blizzard.
I’ve never been in a DQ that didn’t serve food. Mind you, DQ is only if I didn’t have a choice.
Yeah, same - we had one right across the street from us, and as a kid I was always up for a belt buster.
Most of the Dairy Queens I’ve seen serve burgers, but the one in my town only serves frozen treats. But you wouldn’t be in it unless you worked there. It has a drive-through and a walk-up window with outdoor seating, but no interior for customers; and every year it closes for the winter.
If I leave the house and turn left, there’s a Domino’s Pizza two miles away. If I turn right then in five miles I’ll hit the main drag, where I have a choice of Burger King, Dairy Queen, Wendy’s, Arby’s, Taco Bell, KFC, McDonald’s, Firehouse Subs, Little Caesar’s, or Long John Silvers.
If I get on the freeway and go to the third exit, exit left, third light, there’s a Burger King. 5.8 miles
haha that was fun.
I’m more or less equidistant to at least 3 different McDonald’s, less than a mile. There’s a Burger King adjacent to two of them. Just put up a Chick-Fil-A next to one of them. I’m closer to Checkers than anywhere else.
Measuring to the nearest fast food place is a matter of yards, not miles. I live a block and a half off the main drag. If I turn right, the next corner has a Jack In the Box. If I turn left, the next corner has a Del Taco and a Wienerschnitzel. In between those are at least 4 family owned Mexican fast food places. All within a half mile of home.
There’s a Dominos closer to my house than anyplace on the list, but it’s not all that fast, so I wasn’t sure it was included. I guess it’s still 1-5 miles, so I suppose that doesn’t change my reply.
There are a lot of other pizza places in town, but Dominos may be the closest. And none of the other close ones are chains.
There was a Dairy Queen just a five-minute walk from the small office where I used to work. Now and then, on a slow summer afternoon, someone would take orders, collect cash, make a DQ run and bring back treats. I was rather fond of the Peanut Buster Parfaits, meself.
Never heard of what3words before. Do the words ever make sense, in context? I would’ve thought ///prime.minister.office would be more fitting for 10 Downing Street than ///slurs.this.shark.
Not as far as I know, but I’ve only played with that site a little bit.
Re: The music poll, I picked other. I listen to FM radio all day when I work from home, but I am listening to NPR, not music. My local station does air some music programming on the weekends, which I usually tune in to for a while, but I’m listening to it more “just because that’s what’s on”, as opposed to listening to music on purpose.
I live not terribly far from Dairy Queen headquarters, therefore the presence of their shops that only serve cold treats is not surprising. Many would close for the winter, though I think that would be pretty rare now.
Fun fact. My contract house had their local office in the same building as DQ headquarters. Until my old company moved spaces, every time I walked into that building, I was offered a Dilly Bar or other DQ treat. It made reporting to the office quite enjoyable.
@Karen_Lingel just pour me some vodka over ice, or ideally keep the bottle in the freezer.
If you leave from my house in most directions it will be pretty rural. In the one way that’s not rural there is a McDonalds almost exactly a mile away.
Since Diet Ginger Ale was allowed, I’m going to cheat a bit and assume the category also includes Ginger Beer. The other 2 ingredients aren’t things I care to be exposed to in any fashion.
No, they’re pretty much random. I’m a bit lucky that one of the close ones to me makes a phrase similar to exotic.undress.dance (fudged a bit to not give my location) so that I’ve got 1 that’s really easy to remember
This question: Have you ever taken a psychedelic substance? (ie, shrooms, LSD, ayahuasca, DMT, etc.)
I didn’t vote because as someone who suffers from depression, of course I have taken such things with a prescription. But these items aren’t prescription and I haven’t taken any because even the mild depression stuff causes weird side effects in me and I am leery of what sounds like a nightmare to me.
