Discussion thread for the "Polls only" thread (Part 1)

I chose “tiger” because “snow leopard” wasn’t in the choices.

I’d go blue for $10,000. Not for anything less than that, because my time is worth money and the upkeep would take time. The color is irrelevant. Hell, I dye my Van Dyke the school colors for graduation some years.

I figure if they’re willing to pay, they’d be willing to pay $10 million. Plus, blue hair might impact my ability to argue to juries and judges, even in Seattle.

Considering tomorrow, I’m mildly disappointed that there’s no groundhog in any of these polls.

I chose porcupine, because I saw a Brazilian one just a few weeks ago and they are adorable.

I went for $1 million on the blue hair, on the theory that I could make a really useful donation to something. I’m not saying fewer monies aren’t useful, I’m just saying that’s where I really become motivated.

I’m out in public every day, and it would be very difficult for me to do my work and/or maintain any respect from the public, I think, if I were to have blue hair. If I weren’t in my current line of work, I might consider it, but only for big money, like $10 million.

We have lots of deer, skunks, possums, rabbits, squirrels and chipmunks in our neighborhood - I often see them, and an occasional coyote, too.

Tough, very tough to pick just one favorite animal, but I went with cheetahs. Fast, sleek, beautiful, graceful and, alas, endangered. I’ve long been a supporter of this worthy nonprofit group: https://cheetah.org/

Cheetahs were my close second, I have long wanted to see them in the wild.

Thanks for posting that link.

Thanks, Maserschmidt! They do excellent work on a number of different fronts to help cheetahs, and I’m sure your donation will be put to good use.

They are cute.

It seems we like wolves.

I want $1M for the blue- becuase i can use the $$

My little brother dyed his beard blue about a year ago. He has kept it blue by choice. He’s retired and living in Denver, where he isn’t all that odd.

For blue hair I picked $100k. Even if they’re paying for it, it’s time and energy that could be spent doing other things, and looks I’d rather not get. Honestly, I’d probably do it for around 50K, but 10k is too little, so… My car is dying and I really would like to get a new PHEV/BEV and home infrastructure to support it, so that’s how I’m balancing a short term irritation (since it’s only a year) for dealing with immediate needs.

I’d have no qualms at all about taking $1 apiece from a million people; it’d have about zero effect on them. I’d have serious qualms about taking a million dollars from a single unknown individual, especially since that’s statistically not likely to be some rich tycoon, but rather, a middle-class suburban average person at retirement age who’s been saving up in a 401k or IRA or something for decades.

I’d take the million from a million different people just because a dollar would have a minimal effect on most people’s lives nowadays. I would have a few qualms, though. There are more people than we generally think about who have to really struggle for every dime. That would probably prompt me to give a good amount of it to individuals in developing countries. From one person? If I knew it would be a billionaire, I’d jump at it, but since that might be someone’s entire life savings, I wouldn’t take it.

As for the hair, sure! Realistically, $10,000 would convince me, but I’m both lazy and greedy, so I’d ask a million for my trouble.

My actual favorite wild animal would probably be one of the smaller big cats, but of the ones on the list, I chose the tiger. What can I say? I like animals that would eat me if they could.

They didn’t, I unexpectedly discovered it.

I’ve considered dying my hair purple. I did it for a while, but it was too much of a nuisance to keep up.

But i just retired. So i could find the time. And while i prefer purple, blue would be okay.

I went with 10k. It really is a nuisance. But if i liked the person enough i might do it for less.

Oh. Hmm I’d completely forgotten… Actually, i did, too.

If I could tell my wife I will take $100,000 the maintain blue hair. If I can’t tell my wife there is no amount of money that can make up for the misery.

I’ve been very close (< 10 m) to live groundhogs in the wild. They soon became dead groundhogs as they are a menace on a farm, as mentioned in the linked thread.

And least one of those groundhogs was behaving weird and had to be killed before the dogs got too close.

I’m surprised to see that any Dopers have set foot on Victoria Island, being a rather desolate slab of tundra in the Arctic Ocean. Could it be that voters have confused it with sunny Vancouver Island?
