Discussion thread for the "Polls only" thread (Part 1)

If I’m not going to use the spoon again immediately, I’ll probably give it a fast rinse and put it in the dish drainer to dry; though I might toss it in the sink to be washed when I’m next washing other things. But if I’m going to measure something else for the same recipe in teaspoons, I’ll probably use it for that first.

The measuring cup I generally use for dry ingredients (flours, oatmeal, rice, etc.) lives in the large tins I keep such things in. Occasionally it gets grubby and I wash it, but it isn’t usually washed between uses.

Oh, and is it Super Bowl Sunday? I hadn’t noticed.

I was there once when it was 110F. I was working, and the hotel was air conditioned. But yeah, i wouldn’t want to live there.

I reuse measuring spoons and cups until they’re dirty. If it’s handy to do so, I’ll run some water over them, but unless they’ve had wet or sticky or strong-smelling things in them, they’re clean enough.

I’m glad the state polls were meant to be on gut feelings, because that’s how I answered. At first, I thought the question was about whether I’d want to live there, so I judged those states more harshly. There are loads of places I love to visit but wouldn’t live in. Hey, there’s a whole saying about that!

As for the pizza, we had pizza night before last, so we didn’t think of ordering it tonight. Otherwise, I’d not be ordering it because of the Super Bowl. As it is, I chose “Something Else.”

My parents retired to Arizona and made their move in the summer. Yeah, not that smart. I remember visiting in August that first year, and it got down to a “low” of 93 F at 3:00 am. You went from a/c house to a/c car to a/c restaurant or store. And you learn early to get a steering wheel cover.

If I’m going to use the spoon again for the same dish, I’ll probably re-use it. If not, I’ll rinse it and leave it in the drying rack. I wouldn’t just put it away.

I’m surprised that I am one of the very few who does not use measuring spoons. I have a very good sense of what a teaspoon or tablespoon of salt (or whatever) looks like in the palm of my hand.

mmm

I actually do, too, but i don’t like to get salt and turmeric on my hands when i cook. And it’s so easy to use a spoon.

But I’d be much more inconvenienced by not having a good thermometer than by not having a set of measuring spoons. That being said, they are cheap and last forever, and i have 3 or 4 sets of measuring spoons, and use them most times i cook.

When it comes to baked goods and the first few times I make a dish I use measuring spoons, and in general I just rinse and reuse the same one until dish is prepped, then put through the dishwasher. Once I’ve made the dish enough times, I’m comfortable seasoning by eye and to my tastes.

As for the states polls, I find it interesting that the highest ratings are generally in the 7s. Apparently, anyone who loves a state enough to live there is matched by people who distrust or dislike it. Or even if they like it enough to live in it, really don’t rate it all that highly.

Then again, it’s hard to evaluation. I’ve lived most of my life in the southwest, and big states cover a LOT of territory. There are places I love, and places I try to avoid even driving through within 100 miles of me. So, yeah, when you were forced to evaluate a state as a whole, I guess it would be hard to evaluate any but the smallest states as scoring highly.

For example, I was born and lived through kindergarten in western MASS - and from my memories there, I’d love the climate and the terrain. But you couldn’t pay me enough to live in Boston, even if I’d simultaneously love the options and diversity.

If I’m going off of my own recipe (both of them) I just wing it. Most of what I cook is off of recipes and I follow the directions to the letter. I use measuring spoons daily.

If I’m cooking dinner, I rarely measure anything. But I bake a lot, and aside from bread, which I can generally eyeball, baked goods are too finicky for approximation.

I guess I should point out that I don’t bake. I certainly would measure precisely if I did.

mmm

If I measure out some salt, I pour it into my hand. I can accurately pour 1/8, 1/4 1/2 teaspoon or tablespoon or 1/4 cup. Mu gf measures all her stuff, I just eyeball it.

There are these

I am a bit disappointed, though, that there is no “skosh”. I want to know how much a skosh is.

A little less than a splash but more than a smidgen.

A streaker needs to be naked on at least the bottom areas generally kept covered. A person with a shirt but no pants could qualify as a streaker, depending on the length of the shirt – if the shirt’s long enough to cover butt and genitals and is doing so, that doesn’t count. A person with pants on is definitely not a streaker, even if they’re not wearing a shirt.

If you’re not breaking the Indecent Exposure law, it doesn’t count.

The poll stated that it was about a man. A man must be wearing nothing around the groin/butt. A female streaker, I would have chosen the “can wear pants” option.

I didn’t see the options for what I consider a streaker - which for a man, would have to be down to tighty-whiteys (boxers don’t make the cut) with footwear allowed. I mean, if you’re determined to win fame though, you should be wearing nothing but the footwear though. A mask shows a lack of commitment to your attempts at fame, but I guess it’s acceptable. Pants though are right out.

Where I live, the actual indecent exposure law does not per se prohibit public nudity unless there is sexually provocative expression. I guess that standard would mean there can be no streakers here.
