Discussion thread for the "Polls only" thread (Part 1)

I’ll drink lukewarm coffee if there’s no alternative, but that’s at least half the reason we own a microwave.

I eat way too fast, and it’s because of my public school and food-service past. I try to eat more slowly and thoughtfully, but if I’m not concentrating, I end up inhaling my meals. It doesn’t help that I like to eat hot food hot, not lukewarm (and the microwave does unpleasant things to the texture of a lot of foods).

Eating with others, I’ll usually keep a pace that’s reasonably close to the people I’m eating with. If I’m by myself, which mught happen if I’m having lunch at my desk while working, there’s a pretty good chance I’ll just poke along and take an hour and a half to finish off whatever I have.

I’ve never liked food or drink that’s really hot or cold. Warm or cool can be nice, but I’m okay with lukewarm, and I don’t really mind room temp.

But food that can burn me? Not my thing.

I am not a coffee fan at all. A mocha, maybe.

What about the states I don’t know enough to have a clear opinion on?

(Which is most of them, really. I drove around the country in the late 1970’s and hit most but not all of them at least briefly, but that was quite a long time ago. I’ve only been in a few within the last couple of decades. Some states are in the news more than others, of course; but the news stories are often mixed and I’m sure I’m only getting some of them.)

That’s a “6”, halfway between a “0” and a “12”.

But why only 26 states?

Maybe. I’d take a “6” not to mean “I have no idea” but to mean “meh, I think that state’s OK but I don’t think it’s great.” What I mean is that, if I knew more about it, I might think it was a 0 or might think it was a 12 or might think it was a 6 or any of the others.

I just skipped the ones I don’t know well.

I don’t like all those choices. Can’t we do regions? Be much easier.

Instead of rating them, I just tried to guess how all of you were rating them, on average. Did pretty well.

Of course I voted. It’s just a silly poll for amusement. However my answers would be very different if it was split between wanted to visit/revisit and to live there. Visiting would greatly depend on the season. I would love to go back to Alaska. I don’t want to live there or be there in the winter.

Yes, some of the states have very different ratings for “would i like to visit” and “how would i feel about living there”.

I’m about to visit Florida, but there’s no way in hell I’d live there!

I ordered pizza, but yesterday, for today. Local place I like. I wanted to beat the rush, in both preparation and delivery speed. I had a couple of slices last night but I’ll eat the rest today during the game. Reheats up just fine under my broiler.

I really enjoyed our visit to Arizona this year. It was December. I don’t want to live there when it’s 120

Awww, it gets to 120 only once in a while. Even last year’s Month in Hell where the high topped 110 for 32 days straight – more than three times the previous record – it never got over 116.

Believe me, that was enough.

I have an adjustable spoon that goes from 1/8 tsp up to 1 tsp that just lives in the salt jar.

But if I were using a measuring spoon from the drawer, I’d give it a quick rinse and wipe dry before putting it right back in the drawer.

I take a lot of marketing opinion polls (I get frequent flyer miles in return). Very often they will ask you to rate something (like, say, Kellogg’s Corn Flakes), and will explicitly include the instruction “Even if you have never had Kellogg’s Corn Flakes before, please try to rate them anyway based what you’ve heard about them or just your general perception of them.” That is, they’re looking for your “gut feeling” about them, not some well though out fact based rating. I’m treating the state polls the same way.

If the salt is going in at the start, the spoon will be dry so i just put it back in the drawer.
If it’s going in a hot dish then it’ll probably get damp from steam, and salt will stick
to it so i just rinse it off and leave it to drain.

If I measure out some salt, I will put the spoon in the dishwasher to be washed the next time I run it. However, if I need to measure something else I have no qualms about using the same spoon again without washing it first. I just figure if the dishwasher is going to be run anyway the salt spoon might as well get washed.

If I use a measuring cup to just measure out some rice or something similar, I will just put it back in the cupboard.
