I picked the possum gravy because I’ve never eaten possum, and i collect new-to-me meats. But I’d try most of Grandma’s recipes.
Camelback Mountain in Phoenix. Elevation 2704, with a relatively easy hike to the top.
The knowledge. It gets instantly injected into your brain. And you get a nice diploma in the mail too.
for the police/firefighter/nurse poll, I voted as if I were young enough. At 61, I’m not going to start that kind of work. But, I wouldn’t mind being a first responder at 25 or 30.
I voted against being a nurse, simply because I’m not good with injuries. Same for doctor (Although that wasn’t asked). I’m sure there are specialties in medicine that I could do, but I really have little interest.
Whereas i am good with injuries, and seriously considered being a doctor. I’ve done wilderness first aid training, and i have assisted with minor injuries in real life. (The most valuable thing i ever did was give antihistamines to a woman who was an hour away from real medical help and was having an allergic reaction to a bee sting. When she finally got to the emergency department, the doctor told her that saved her life.)
But I’m too old to start any of those careers, too.
A friend of ours travels a lot and eats whatever she’s never eaten before. She did not enjoy possum. She said rat was way better.
I wasn’t sure whether to vote as if I were 25 and physically fit for any of them, or as if in my current state. I couldn’t do any of them, now. I couldn’t have done any of them without a lot of training, at any age; and the only one they’d have taken me to train for, when I was 25, would have been nurse. I’m both female and short.
– thanks, @Velocity. I’d have to look several of them up to make up my mind, though.
Been to the top of Mt. Washington! Drove up there, too…not doing that again.
Should that say “You object to the verb “gift”” ?
No, “gifted” is what appeared in the poll.
I think the smoked crawdads are the only dish on that list I would want to eat, although I’d be willing to at least taste the others.
I’ve been to the top of Mount Mansfield, the highest mountain in Vermont, and Mount Baldy, the highest at Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico - both exhilarating, with great views.
I think I could be a good cop, but I have a firefighter friend and don’t think that that would be the alternative career for me. And, as I wrote about the earlier medical-career poll, I would definitely not want to deal with all the bodily fluids a nurse has to, especially blood and urine.
Then i don’t understand it. I will have to abstain !
Does “object” mean “object vehemently”, or “find mildly annoying but have become pretty well resigned to”?
Your call.
OK, I’ll go ahead and object, then. ETA: just not very strongly.
And I think I’ll go ahead and pick the comp/TIA; not because I’d expect to use it, but because it would be nice to better understand how this thing works that I’m using.
At the current moment I’ve had 8 of the top 9 in the home emergency poll. (looks nervously at septic field)
Crud, I forgot fire & smoke damage
Should septic include sewer problems? Roto rooter knows me by name
Sure, if you like. I was thinking stuff that you actually own, but I suppose the pipe to the street is your problem most places, so good to call that out.
It’s actually the pipes in my house (damn 70s construction)
You’re absolutely correct. I did forgot an important point. She used a cane, walker or wheelchair for the last 20 years of her life, after having both knees replaced. My mother (her daughter) has already had one knee replaced and I’d like to avoid that.
Everybody should do what’s best for them.
Regarding mountain summits, I presume it assumes the person is walking up, not using public transportation. I’ve been on Titlis, but there are higher stations in Switzerland. But I took the cable car.
