This would be my choice in the Twin Cities too, though our local Holiday company has far more stores. Casey’s is here too. But 7/11 pulled out a long time ago and none of the others listed exist here.
When you’re on a road trip on a highway with no towns for miles and miles, you stop for gas…you get snacks. I was a big hit on the trip where I picked up the chili cheese Fritos and the pecan sandies cookies.
ETA: The only store on the list I’d heard of was 7-11, so I picked it. I should have picked other because lots of times there are little independent shops on the lesser highways.
I have to admit that there’s a switch here in the living room that I had no idea what it did until 3 years ago. I’ve lived in this house since Thanksgiving of 1997…
Some do, some don’t.
True.
When I’m doing long-distance walking I might, but never when I’m driving.
I need a “none” choice because, while I occasionally get gas at convenience stores, if I do I get it at whichever one is convenient on the particular day when/where I’m driving and need gas; I don’t have a favorite.
I almost never buy food at them. Maybe one thing if I don’t need gas but do need to piss.
And I don’t think any of the ones listed are anywhere near me; though possibly one or two are and I just didn’t note the name, but think of them as ‘that station just outside x village on the way to y’.
“Extends?” More like conquered. They have been all over South Jersey for awhile now and are making a big push into North Jersey. I read there are more stores in NJ than any other state. Hard to pin down and exact number online because it’s expanding so quickly. They also have a bunch in Florida and will be filling in the other states in between.
I’ve never done that. I stop for gas, and i stop at a restaurant/fast food place. Those night be close to each other, but they probably aren’t.
I do sometimes pack snacks before i leave.
I almost never stop for an actual meal when I’m on the road. Only if I’m going straight to Eureka from L.A. Then, I stop at Harris Ranch, have a nice meal, and a long stretch of my legs.
Places like Wawa blur the line. Wawa has a deli counter where they make fresh to order food. They have been known for that for longer than they have been putting gas pumps at their stores.

I’m just taking all the money now and giving most of it to charities and other SDMB posters. Why wait?
While I’d certainly appreciate it, and be among the first to praise you and put out my hand, while you’re at it, why not BUY the SDMB from the powers that be and rule it with an iron fist! Oh, and pay the mods something, they’ve earned it!
I also voted for lump sum. I would certainly sock away a large portion of it in some boring but stable investment, but there are people, technologies, and schools I’d like to invest in, even if the ROI isn’t all that great. Admittedly, I can do that on a lower order with the annuity, but having the ParallelLines annual scholarship has always been a dream.
And I’m certainly buying the 'Dope. There will be the perpetual daily thank you thread to me, and verily, it will be filled with snark and “How about we pay you to stop being so smug about it!” comments.
Lastly, I can’t remember the last time I went to a a quick-stop style store for anything BUT gas. I have a certain inherited cheapness, and every time I stop at a gas station the prices of everything drives me right out, with a sole exception - fresh popped popcorn.
Only a few travel stops still do it, but there is one in Raton NM, and at or around a buck for a medium bag, it’s tasty and cheaper than say a movie theater. And it’s cheaper than pretty much everything else in the place.
If I’m on a long enough trip that I want to stop and eat on the way, I want to get out of the car and eat in someplace reasonably comfortable. Give me a good diner, preferably an indie if I can find one; partly to encourage indies, partly because they’ve got a better chance of giving me something I actually want to eat (though of course they vary a lot.)
If the trip’s not long enough for that, I’ll pack something from home to eat if I’m leaving shortly before mealtime, and in any case just in case I get stuck somewhere.
Sorry, I could only put the stores on the poll that I knew. I don’t really know what you all have up north or out west.
How can you not have heard of Buc-ee’s? They hold World Records!
Never seen it. I assume that’s a southern chain?
Started and still largely in Texas, but moving into the South.
Having a 66,000+ sq. ft. convenience store in kinda cheating, but you know what they say about Texas.
The range of snacks/foods/stuff available at Buc-ee’s is amazing. Cross a 7/11 with a Walmart with a Canadian Tire but with good food and you get an idea. Their breakfast tacos are amazing and their fudge could put an elephant into a diabetic coma.
Buc-ee’s also has the best public restrooms anywhere.
This is the first I’ve heard of Buc-ee’s.

I sometimes bought food at Wawa when i lived in Princeton, but i don’t think i was aware they sold gas. At any rate, that’s probably not where i stop to get gas on a road trip. And honestly, not where i stop to get a meal on a road trip, either.
