Discussion thread for the "Polls only" thread (Part 1)

I have a big floor squeegee. It’s darn handy for the catio and the garage floor.

As a child, we had fish and gerbils. I am kept as a servant by cats.

We had guinea pigs, too. We had a whole herd of them for a while.

I regret not including guinea pigs in the poll. I meant to do so but somehow that line got lost when I was shuffling things around to get them in a better order. Probably should have included mice too.

I kind of expected fish to come in first, but I’m surprised that turtles are running a strong second.

I voted for turtles, but technically it was a tortoise. Russian Box.

Other amphibians should have been included. I had a spotted salamander.

Designated place to put keys - Though I voted no I sort-of do. In the warm months, they stay in my handbag, in cold months they stay in my jacket pocket. I’ve never done the hang keys on a hook kind of thing.

I thought “turtle” was sufficient, since tortoises are a family of turtles.

Yeah, my keys live in my pants pockets. When i empty out my pockets, all the pocket-stuff goes on my bedside table. But the place my keys live is my pants pockets, and I load the pockets when i put on the pants.

I picked “all or most of the time” but “most” is a lot more accurate. If I don’t put them where I should have, there are about three other likely places to look, plus pockets. If they’re not in any of those, it’s liable to be quite a hunt.

And I picked that the day of the week wouldn’t matter; but the weather certainly would matter.

I always take a jacket or coat when i go out.
I only need my keys (and wallet & mobile phone) when i go out.
Therefore, my keys etc stay in the jacket/coat pocket.

We have key hooks in the front hall.

Keys, wallet, EDC…all go into the bowl on the hutch. Phone gets put on the charger in the office next to the computer.

My purse is a little backpack and my keys go on the clip of the backpack. The only time I remove them is when I’m running and paranoid about getting locked out of the house.

My keys are only in my pocket when I’m walking the dog. Otherwise, I hate keys in my pockets.

My older sister had a pet mouse (very cute!) when we were kids; we all played with it. My brother had two Pekin ducks, and Muscovy that was rescued from a pre-school. He was named Henry Bibby until “he” started laying eggs. And, yes, we ate the eggs (almost said we “ate them,” but some people might think I meant the ducks).

Keys? I don’t have them anymore. I’m driven around in a car with keyless start, usually. Don’t need house keys these jokers around here never lock a door.
I have an office/art room locked all the time. The key is in my jewelry box.

Used to carry them in a bag I always had.

I need a “nothing” option on the pocket contents poll. I only have my keys in my pocket when I take the dog out, and that’s not “most” of the time I go out.

I have a kitchen junk drawer where my keys and wallet live. I have a single house key on an Oakland A’s keychain, and an electronic fob car “key.” They are not connected, so I’m only taking one or the other depending on whether I leave the house on foot or on wheels.

The last thing I do before I leave is to put the key and wallet in my pocket, and the first thing I do when I get home is to put them back in the drawer.

I don’t always put everything back where it belongs (just ask my wife!), but I always know where my keys and wallet are.

As a woman, I don’t have much room in my pockets. I keep my lip balm and a pen on the left, shopping list in a back pocket, keys in the right, and everything else in my purse or jacket. I don’t need to take keys when I walk the dogs because we have a touchpad lock.

Let’s see, my standard pants kit includes my phone, my chain wallet that doesn’t actually have anything in it but old business cards, my real wallet that’s a ripoff Ridge wallet that I bought on amazon for $10, pocket knife, BIC lighter that is primarily used as a bottle opener, small tape measure, two pens, a small Post-It brick, my other knife/multitool, a small LED flashlight, a couple of folded plastic “T-shirt” bags, and my keys are on a carabiner on my belt. Also, a Chap Stick and a pile of folded tissues, napkins, and paper towels that are primarily for my wife’s use.

I know, that’s a lot of stuff. My wife makes fun of all my “pants stuff” all the time. Almost everything I carry I carry because I needed it once in the past and I didn’t have it. Not making any of those mistakes twice. Often I’ll break something out that someone needs and they’ll ask “Why do you have that?” And the answer is, “You needed it just now and you didn’t have it, that’s why.”

As a woman wearing men’s cargo pants, I have lots of room in my pockets. – if I’ve got my wallet (which I will) I’ve got coins; but the coins are in the wallet, not in a separate coin purse. In addition to most of the items on the poll list, I’ll have kleenex, a small tape measure, and sometimes a small flashlight (yes, there’s one on my phone, but it’s not as bright.) I’ll often but not always have a pen.

It occurs to me that I read “when you go out” to mean “when you leave home.” If I’m outside the house but at home, I won’t have wallet or car keys (unless I’m about to do something involving starting a car.) I may, however, depending on what I’m doing, have one or more additional tools – pruning shears, trowel, gloves, irrigation connectors, etc.; flagging tape; field maps. And, these days, I’ll probably have dog treats.
