So the trick is to find cargo pants in my size?

It’s a surprisingly useful item to have on you, isn’t it?

Whether you can find men’s pants that will fit you may be an issue. Neither men’s nor women’s pants really fit me properly, so I choose the ones with better pockets and that I can move more easily in. They do make women’s cargo pants, but while those are better about pockets than most other women’s pants, IME the pockets are shallower and less sturdy than the ones in the men’s versions; but I haven’t tried every make on the market.

Whether you feel comfortable, or are allowed to, show up wherever you’re going in men’s cargo pants (or women’s cargo pants, for that matter) may be another issue.

It is indeed. Especially if you like to stop at yard sales.

As for lip balm, I played brass instruments from 7th grade through college, so I got in the habit of using it year-round. (If you’re curious, here’s the list: F horn, mellophone, euphonium, baritone, and trumpet.)

What has it got in its nasty little pocketses?

Almost exactly this, except that when I empty out my pockets, it’s usually from the pants I was wearing yesterday into the pockets of the pants I was wearing today. So I couldn’t answer the “Where do you put your keys” question, because I don’t put them anywhere except in my pocket.

Speaking of pockets, in addition to the choices listed, I almost always have al least one pen and one pencil, and a handkerchief. Plus I still haven’t broken the habit of carrying a mask with me in my pocket, even though I hardly ever wear one anymore.

A mask and a spare live in the car; and if I’m going somewhere in somebody else’s car I’ll take one with me, quite possibly in a pocket. But I don’t usually keep them in my pockets; the current one will be hanging on the gear selector and I’ll grab it when getting out of the car if I’m going to be inside someplace.

Yes, I’m still wearing one if indoors in public. Almost nobody else around here is; which only makes me feel more like I need to be wearing one.

I have my phone, my keyring, my wallet, some cash, and one or two small pocket knives. My keyring has a USB thumb drive as well as keys. The wallet is really a card holder, which is why cash is folded and did next to the wallet. I also keep a carabineer on my belt loop, which i use to hold my mask when I’m not wearing it. I generally wear a mask if I’m going to be indoors someplace other than my home.

The problem with sizes is I’m a little teapot, short and stout. Men’s pants that fit me in the waist are ridiculously long for my 27" inseam.

I’ve had good luck having a tailor replace the pockets in my pants with useful pockets.

Ah. In my case women’s pants don’t solve that problem, because women’s petite pants almost always also have a short rise, and I need a long rise.

So I just get the shortest available inseam on the men’s (inseam and rise being independent in men’s clothing IME), and roll up the cuffs on the men’s. (I’ve usually got my sleeves rolled up too, whether men’s or women’s.) Again, not a solution that’ll work for everybody.

That’s a good solution too, for those who can afford the tailor; and can get over being too pissed off at the idea that they ought to pay to have brand-new often-expensive clothes repaired before they can wear them.

My coins are in my wallet, which I always carry. So wasn’t sure whether to select it.

I prefer Neil Young and Crazy House to CSN and CSNY but he wasn’t the best one in CSNY. That would be Stills.

There’s always a Fitbit in my pocket.

You probably know this, but your smart phone can be used as a tape measure. I used mine for thirs just the other day.

mmm

We have no house keys. My car keys are always in my car, where they are needed.

Never use lip balm, my lips are plenty balmy as they are.

My key ring lives in a bin in the car. There is a house key on it but it’s almost never used. I also have a truck for hauling, those keys live in a bin in that vehicle too.

I know, and I’m no Luddite but I don’t fully trust them. Fine for ball-parking but if I need a precise measurement, I’m using something I can touch.

 You read my mind!

My keys live in my front left pocket, and a small Swiss Army knife in my front right. In the back left I always have a coupla folded-up Kleenexes. My back right pocket is usually empty. If I go out, I always take along my wallet, cellphone, a pen and a mask.

I never use lip balm, which has an unpleasant waxy feel to it IMHO, but I do use a little bit of Noxema or hand lotion if my lips get chapped.

When I get chapped lips, it nearly always means I’m dehydrated. I need water far more than I need lip balm.

I’m the opposite. If my lips are very chapped, the act of drinking water can remove some of the natural oil/wax from my lips, and aggravate the problem. I need to add more to the lipid barrier.
