Discussion thread for the "Polls only" thread (Part 2)

Indeed. If it’s my last irl job i had, i’d want at least 100X to do another year.

Yeah, that’s kind of an ‘it depends.’

How’s my health, how are my finances, how is anybody who might be currently packing to go on that vacation with me going to take it, do I like the job, do I hate the job, have the bosses treated me well or terribly or somewhere inbetween?

(I’m selfemployed; so imagining it’s my current job won’t work.)

Seconding. Even if we change the word “Texan”.

I would happily have continued working had that choice been available. At 4x my salary? Sure, indefinitely.

I agree, But say it is only 1%. that is enough to win some purple states.

Yep. All they want.

Four times my current salary ain’t all that great, I’ve cut my hours way down.

For our laundry, my gf has been buying pods. She does her laundry (and the sheets), I do my laundry.

Once she used the last pod. My laundry isn’t that filthy, so I did my load without detergent. There was still some suds and my clothes looked marvelous! I assume the washing machine contained residual soap.

Been there. Done that. Got the tee shirt.

I posted something about this in the GA thread; when the president is in town there’s a 30 mile TFR (temporary flight restriction). Over the past 8 years we’ve been screwed with the number of weekends that Trump spent in Bedminster & Biden in Wilmington leaving us either grounded or driving much further away to fly. There is a smaller TFR for the veep but a veep may go on to be president
I was therefore happy when Biden dropped out & cringing the thought of Shapiro. Let some other area of the country suffer for a while; we’ve had more than our share recently

Not going to bother to look it up but ISTR there was a whole issue with the airport at Palm Beach having limited to no access to airspace every time Trump was golfing at Mar-A-Lago.

The retirement question was very real to me. I retired this February in part because i was pissed at the company. One of the things i was annoyed at was the extremely low wage increases. I felt like i had chosen to stay employed instead of retire in part as a hedge against inflation, and they weren’t providing that. So yes, i would have stayed longer for a large salary increase. But probably only a few years longer. I guessed 2 years, but maybe it would have been more.

There is no flying at all within 10 miles & limited flying within 30 miles. You can take off & immediately proceed directly out of the TFR area, with extra steps. Flight schools can’t do thinks like pattern work or practice touch-&-go’s because they’re not exiting the area. Balloons don’t control their direction so they can’t fly in the TFR at all. Drones can’t fly; & yes, there are people using them commercially (roof inspection, aerial pictures of a property for sale, other commercial operations, etc.) & therefore, losing money. I know of someone who was planning on doing a commercial for a major company; he was paid for the advance planning work he had done but didn’t get paid for the flying part as that never happened, his VOs never got paid because they didn’t do anything & it wasn’t rescheduled as there were too many moving parts & entities involved for them to just change the day.

There was a flight school in FL that moved to a different airport, further from Mar-a-lago because of all the weekends that they couldn’t teach. The airport they moved from lost in excess of ¼ million a year because of the lost takeoff & landing fees, parking pad fees, lost fuel pumped, etc.

There are procedures for first responders (medivac helicopters, PD helicopter, fire/rescue drones) to be accommodated in the event of a call & we will for a call out but just won’t fly if it was a scheduled training for us & the Prez is around.

I had to check myself to see if I could actually recite the first verse of “The Star-Spangled Banner” without singing it. I could, but singing it would be easier.

I could say something similar about the Preamble to the US Constitution (thanks to Schoolhouse Rock).

I can sing one, but a buddy knew three verses- and he was trying to memorize the 4th.

Was he German?

In World War II, there was an urban legend about a sentry who caught infiltrators by asking them to sing the third verse. Real Americans, who had only sung it once in elementary school, would respond with a string of profanity. If they had gone to the trouble of memorizing it, he knew they were German spies.

My oldest decided to memorize all four verses. I believe he had done that mostly to irritate his brothers.

Nope, just good at memorizing. We had to memorize Lincolns Gettysburg address and the preamble, and altho I can still give a good start on both, he was still able to spout either until he died about 2 years ago.

As an American I can recite all the words to all four verses. I actually prefer the final verse but they are all good.

I took my symbolic logic course in the philosophy department, not as a math course. I checked it anyway.

Yeah, a couple of these I had in upper level physics classes, and I counted them.

Same. Still counts.

To this day, I maintain that Stats and Probability courses were created for the sole purpose of collecting the tears of undergrads.
