Most of the year I wear the boxer briefs I’ve been wearing that day plus a roomy T-shirt that I only wear for sleeping in. If it gets cold, I put on a pair of sweatpants. But never any socks in bed. My bare feet are an important part of my overall temperature regulation as radiators or absorbers of heat.
When I look into the mirror after waking up, I yearn for the days when men wore a hat of some sort to bed.
No reason why you can’t, if you want to. They still sell them – search on “nightcap hat”.
Hah! A nightcap. I should look into this.
“…And Mamma in her 'kerchief, and I in my cap, had just settled our brains for a long winter’s nap…”
‘Zactly
For me, the only thing worse than the feeling of socks on my feet while sleeping is the thought of a cap on my head while sleeping.
mmm
I used to have recurring nightmares as a pianist that I was in the backstage of a recital hall, and the emcee would announce: “Velocity is about to perform Tchaikovsky’s 12th Scherzo in A Minor” (or some similarly nonsensical name like that) and I would protest, “WTF is that piece!!!??”
And the audience often had my family, friends, etc. all in attendance.
I’ve had a recurring dream that my wife is missing. That doesn’t seem to be on the list.
I’ve had multiple dreams with a few of the scenarios listed in the poll, but the one I most often have is trying to go somewhere or accomplish something but being prevented by various mundane obstacles.
My most common dream is being at work, and things going wrong, one after another, but never quite exasperating enough to wake me up.
My second most common dream is being back in school, and unprepared for a test or a term paper.
I rarely dream about having sex. Usually, I am just about to have sex, when one of my parents walks in and interrupts. Then I wake up.
It’s always disappointing to wake up from the dreams where I discover a previously unknown room in my house, because those rooms in my dreams are always way nicer than my actual house.
I used to have a recurring dream where I’m at an airport, have lost my boarding pass, and can’t even remember what flight I’m supposed to be on even what city I’m traveling to. But I know that if I don’t figure it out soon I’m going to miss my flight. I figure that’s basically a variation of the “forgot to study or attend class” dream, but different enough that I didn’t pick it in the poll.
I often dream that I’m working at my old job at Safeway. Nothing particularly special or unusual happens, I’m just there. It’s bizarrely mundane.
How about a cat on your head while you’re sleeping?
I sometimes have to put a hat on to keep a cat from kneading in my hair.
– The “previously unknown room(s) in the house” dreams are quite pleasant. Hey, look at this great room I didn’t know I had!
I didn’t check the classroom dreams; but I think I did use to have them, though they faded away so long ago that I’m not sure.
I used to have dreams in which I’d just gotten several new issues of comics which I wanted to read, but I could never manage to get a chance to read them; various something elses kept claiming my attention. But then, from these and other dreams, I concluded some time ago that the part of my mind which is dreaming can’t read; though that part of me recognizes that reading’s important to my conscious mind.
Pro tip: If you dream of a toilet or urinal, do not use it.
mmm
I didn’t see this post until I hit Reply my poll on bed headwear. Dunno if pets count but if so you can use the Other category.
My most common dream is forgetting where I parked my car, or just losing it period.
My most common setting is my old back yard on the St. John’s River, a place which remains very special to me.
Oh, I’ve also had dreams in which I’ve somehow accidentally shaved off my beard. But that’s not really the same as “hair falling out”.
I often have dreams where I am widowed and remarried. When I realize I’m married to this stranger, I get upset. I don’t want to be married to her. I want to be married to Mrs Magill.
I learned that one at age 13.
OK, will do.
I don’t really have recurring dreams. But when i was a kid i often dreamed about losing a tooth. When I was ~30, my mother told me that i DID lose a tooth when i was a toddler, but it was a baby tooth so they didn’t do anything about it
