Discussion thread for the "Polls only" thread (Part 2)

I’m pretty unbothered by this election itself except for the potential that a family member (who is very QAnon-ish) may blow large sums of money or behave irrationally as a result. She has spent a lot of money on all kinds of irrational or unnecessary “precautions” and I don’t want her to go further over the edge.

I am a casual of Michael Jacksons’ music, but his overall talent and showmanship has always impressed me. I saw the Broadway show “MJ - The Musical” recently and it absolutely blew me away (hence the creation of the poll). The lead was incredible, I felt as if I were watching MJ himself.

That said, during the “Beat It” sequence, I really screwed up. I said to myself, “get yourself an egg and beat it…”. Once that happened I couldn’t let it go.

mmm

“Corning”???

(from the Halloween prank poll)

mmm

LOL! I fear I have isolated myself in a local cultural niche. Rural Western Pennsylvania and possibly other locations may be aware of this Halloween behavior.

When I was growing up it was the most frequent Halloween prank in the neighborhood.

We would get ears of dried corn from local farmers and shell the cobs until we had a large bag full of the stuff. We would then go house to house throwing handfuls of dried corn on porches. The object was to make it hit something like metal or a window for the full sound effect.

It’s died out for the most part although my most recent experience of getting corned was a couple years ago.

One time we gathered tons of dried corn and put it in a cousin’s car. Then we saran wrapped the vehicle.

I have not “corned” anyone for many years.

When I was young I was a full blown prankster.

I grew up in rural western PA (Beaver County) and I hated it when the big kids would corn our trailer. The noise was so loud and scary, whether the corn hit the windows or the siding. I was so glad when they quit doing it.

Mine too. (Plus, it doesn’t really count, but “Somebody’s Watching Me” by Rockwell with MJ as guest vocalist.)

Yes it was annoying as hell. Still not quite as bad a cleaning egg off your car or soap off your windows lol! I think Halloween pranks have pretty much died out around these parts.

And I say good riddance. Did your pranksters use soap or wax? Ours used wax, like the kind you used to seal canning jars with. (Side note: When did we stop sealing canned jam with wax?)

I think our pranksters used bars of soap. I never heard of using wax - that sounds terrible. I remember seeing wax for sale in the stores many years ago though.

Yes I am happy that the days of Halloween shenanigans are pretty much done.

We only pranked close family members for the most part and then assisted in the clean up. Occasionally we might throw a few bits of toilet paper on the neighbor’s pine trees.

My MJ song of choice is “Rock With You”

I don’t listen to AM/FM as it is pretty outmoded over hear. I will listen to live radio but it is 99.9% using DAB / DAB+. My car and home radios can receive AM/FM but the quality is much lower. If I am driving somewhere really remote there might not be a DAB signal but usually if that is the cast the analog is so bad it is hard to make it out.

Is NOTA the same as N/A?

NOTA = None of the above

I see virtually zero Harris signs, though there is the occasional bumper sticker.

Interestingly, a couple places that had Trump signs don’t have them up any more. Not stolen, I don’t think, because there are others in the general area.

I debated between “lots more Harris” and nota. I don’t live in a swing state, and don’t see many signs for either.

I have Sirius/XM but almost never listen to it. My life doesn’t need a soundtrack.

I live in a very red town in a very blue state. I’ve seen virtually zero political signs that weren’t local politics. Ordinarily there would be tons of Trump signs and the odd Trump caravan through town. This year - nada. I’m taking that as a positive sign for Tuesday.

This year I’ve yet to see a single yard sign boosting any candidate or cause. Coastal California.

I have seen one lone yard sign in our community of over 600 homes. It’s a Trump/Vance sign.

I briefly thought about contacting the HOA to inquire about any rules regarding political signs (I suspect they’re not allowed), but I figured, why be petty. I voted instead.

I’ll listen to a game on the radio if I’m driving but don’t listen to sports talk at all.
I just don’t see the point of spending 4 hrs to discuss something that took three hours total, including the various stoppages, & even the there are only a handful of play that really mattered; especially when I may have only heard the play being described by the common taters if I even heard a given play at all.

I haven’t seen very many yard signs in my neighborhood supporting either presidential candidate, but there is a house around the corner from me with a Trump flag, and I’m pretty sure I saw at least one Harris sign, so I guess that counts as “about 50/50”. There are a lot more yard signs for state and local offices, and if I had to guess, the most common signs are the ones opposing a local sales tax ballot measure.
