I guess it doesn’t seem possible that someone doesn’t like mac and cheese. If that was a possibility that’s what I would have picked.
I like M&C, but I don’t think I’ve had more than 2 servings of it since Sophia was a child. And I definitely do not think it belongs in fine dining restaurants.
Sometimes they call it something else. A place we go to calls it “Lumaconi pasta with four cheeses and chorizo”. So, it’s not macaroni, but it’s the same thing. (and it’s delicious)
US comfort/child food. Typically boiled or boiled and baked elbow macaroni, milk, and cheddar, but often a quick-preparation food-in-a-box with what I can only call “cheez.”
ETA: As for CostCo, I go monthly because my pharmacy is there, and they have an inexpensive car wash.
I like mac and cheese, but never make it because my husband and daughter won’t/can’t eat it. So i voted based on my childhood, and to a lesser extent, eating at restaurants.
I pretty much only order it as a main course. It’s too heavy to be a good side. And when my mom made it, it was always the main course.
I probably would shop at CostCo, if there were one anywhere near me; but there isn’t.
Costco is probably an average of once a month. I try to get gas there too but only when I’m already near there
Yeah, I don’t like mac&cheese. I never eat it. No textural issues. It’s just too bland and mooshy for me. Well, maybe that latter is a bit of a textural issue. Doesn’t make me gag. I just don’t like it.
I don’t really understand CostCo. The ones nearest me have parking lots that might be fun for highly competitive adrenaline jockeys in beater cars, but for those of us who just want to park without running into or over anyone, they’re unpleasant. The store has a few things I might want in quanitites I could never use, but most of the things that are practical to buy are not that great a deal, once you factor in annual membership etc.
I think they’re great for large households and people who find bargains thrilling. I avoid them.
Yeah, I live in a townhouse condo. I don’t have a garage, so storage of large quantities of items is a problem.
I debated what to answer. I bought a Costco membership once, and decided not to renew it. But i sometimes go with a friend to help them shop for an event. Less than once a year, but not never.
We joined Costco a couple of months ago, and go once every couple of weeks. Weekday mornings are light traffic, but I can’t imagine going there on a weekend.
I’m not sure we would’ve joined it, except we run a food kitchen four times a year that requires big bulk purchases, and this makes it easier. But we do also find good prices there.
I had a Costco membership for several years, while I was working at a company where my office was down the street from a Costco; I largely used it for buying inexpensive gasoline. We have a household of two, without a lot of storage space, so I didn’t often shop there for food, household goods, etc. When I left that job, I let my membership lapse.
My parents have a Costco membership, and I go with them sometimes to help them shop (due to their mobility issues).
We have a Costco membership. My son drinks A LOT of milk, so we shop there and Kroger every week.
We also have a BJ’s membership. They carry some things that Costco does not, and the gas is cheaper, so we hit them about once a month.
We used to have a Sam’s membership, then they opened the BJ’s. Sam’s does have pretty decent sushi.
This is why we go on a weeknight. Only mad dogs and Englishmen go to Costco on Saturday.
All we add is shredded cheese, but yep, it is the main dish. Of course, leftovers are sometimes dies.
Once in a great while we go to Costco with a friend. Like once every 5 years or so, so i picked “Never”.
Never heard of BJ’s, and I couldn’t tell you where the nearest Sam’s Club is. I’d have to google.
They’ve been around for decades, but are far smaller (as far as number of locations) than either Sam’s Club or Costco: ~250 stores, as opposed to 600+ U.S. locations for both Costco and Sam’s.
They apparently only operate in the Midwest and some Eastern states.
We had them in Raleigh and Charlotte. We were excited when one was to open near us.
Ah, that’s why. I’m in SoCal.
Mac and cheese is a main dish, never a side dish in our house, though it’s normally the homemade stuff with lots of goodies added (mostly roasted green chiles, sometimes bacon). Rarely, I’ll get some as comfort/sick food, that’s the frozen in tray option from Trader Joe’s, but I’ve always avoided the cheez from a box option.
As for Costco, I voted “monthly” but with some internal caveats. I or the wife shop there every 3-4 weeks, which is close enough, but she gets her meds there which is another 2-3 visits every 90 days, and we both go there for Gas as required since it’s near the house and a good value (me rather often, her far less so with the PHEV).
So if I included non-grocery/retail shopping, it would be closer to weekly.
