Discussion thread for the "Polls only" thread (Part 2)

Carol & Daryl for when Daryl wants to be ambiguous about how long it will take him to circumvent a zombie hoard on his motorcycle.

There’s that long-running soap opera about Alice and Bob and Eve, mostly documented in books and papers about cryptography.

For the “No Kings” poll, which always serve as a reminder when they’re coming up, I voted probably but really wished it was a multiple answer option.

Probably, because I want to do so, but not certainly because of a number of IRL reasons - weather being a minor one, a slightly more serious one being I’m travelling around the 28th, and being in a big, largely unmasked crowd 10 days before travel isn’t a great idea, and the one I wanted the multiple answer for: “I would like attend to but I fear what might happen.”

Still a probably though.

I’m not attending the No Kings marches, not just because of the Covid risk as ParallelLines mentioned above, but also because I really think such protests are a useless way to oppose the Trump administration. Granted, I’m not sure what would be a good way to oppose Trump. But protests are almost always just preaching to the choir, and exert no leverage.

The ones that work are the massive non-violent civil disobediance protests that block the government from imposing their authoritarian plans. Jam the gears of the machine, provoke them to commit violence.

First they ignore us, then they laugh at us, then they hurt us, then we win.

There is some hope this will be the largest protest yet. There is certainly a lot to be standing against. We shall see.

“No Kings” reminds me too strongly of the Hyenas talking to Scar in the Lion King.

“No king no king,…”

Re: Studio vs. live music: I found it difficult to answer because, while nothing beats the energy of actually attending a live show, most recordings of live music are vastly inferior to their studio counterparts.

I put up with studio recordings because I don’t have the money, or the energy, to follow bands around and go to shows 3-4x every week.

Some of the studio recordings are too overproduced. On stage is just the performers. No backing tracks, no vocal stacking, etc. So if that means I have to put up with audience noise to get a live recording, I’ll take it.

:male_sign: was surely the symbol for Mars before anything else.

As noted above, there are really three kinds of experiences. Attending a live performance, listening to an engineered studio recording, and listening to a recorded live performance. My preference is generally in that order.

Re: PTO
I voted Something Else because for me it stands for Please Turn Over, as found on many, many exam papers of my school and uni days.

^That.

Also, live vs studio - it depends. Some live albums are better than
some studio, and vice versa.

Do i drink the water from my bathroom tap? Why is the most positive answer “sometimes”. I drink from that tap several times a day. The only tap i drink more water from is the kitchen tap. I take pills using that water morning and evening. I usually have a small drink after brushing my teeth. If i wake up to pee, I’m usually thirsty, and drink some water from that tap.

And also, why wouldn’t i? It’s the same water source as the rest of the house. It’s one of the taps i tested for lead when i bought the house. (Although it’s since had all its pipes replaced with a bathroom renovation.)

That little circle with the arrow always entertains me.
I know it is an accepted symbol indicating male.

My current interpretation is this:

“You must leave the roundabout as quickly as possible. Get off this unending circle of hell.”

Same here

me too

Me three, except that I take my pills downstairs in the kitchen, so that water’s from the kitchen sink.

ditto

My first encounter with the symbol was on the chest of the robot character Gold in Metal Men comics.
