Yes, i like lentils, beans, chick peas, tofu, and many other vegan protein sources. I haven’t be happy with vegan meat substitutes as burgers, sausages, etc. i didn’t know if I’ve tried vegan cheese, but it’s not something I’m looking for.
The only Vegan “meat” that I liked is someone made sloppy joes with a meat-like stuff, and I really couldn’t tell the difference.
I’d have questions about the meat substitute. I’d want to know both how and why it was “deliberately designed to have the exact taste and texture as human flesh.”
And, if the technology existed to make a meat substitute that was so cheap, nutritious, and delicious, surely a variety could also be made that didn’t taste human?
This is a very good point!
I’ve occasionally had one that was good. But it was a good veggie burger, not a good meat burger.
Most of the meat substitutes I’ve tried just taste like salt to me.
The flavor and texture of the meat from an animal who got to move around are significantly different from (and IMO much better than) those from animals raised in close confinement.
I suspect vat grown meat would be a lot more like the latter.
I’m sure you are right, and i currently pay a lot extra to buy pastured meat. But if i could have meat with a lower environmental impact that also didn’t involve animal cruelty, I’d be willing to eat bland, overly tender meat.
I played in the handbell choir at the church I attended in college, and then came back to it for several years, at a church I attended about 20 years ago.
In both cases, I often wound up playing the lower (larger) bells, as I was one of the few men in both choirs, and one of the few who had the arm and wrist strength to handle the bigger bells.
What a difference that last vowel makes…
I think of ringing tower bells as a tower with a number of different bells making music.
I have rung a chuch bell but there was only one bell, rung repeatedly for a few minutes before a service to call people to worship (a tradition from a time many people did not have clocks / watches)
I was referring to a group of tower bells, either to ring changes or a carillon to play tunes. But i should have added an option for ringing a bell in a tower with a single bell.
Why the heck are we limited to 3 votes in the list of songs about bells? I’ve heard more than 3 of those songs.
I voted for the Metallica and the AC/DC ones. I also selected other because The Royal Guardsmen’s “Christmas Bells (Snoopy vs The Red Baron)” wasn’t listed.
It’s missing a number of bells songs. What kind of ding-a-ling came up with that bells poll?
I didn’t even know “handbell choir” was a thing. Is it exclusively church related? (if so, that would explain my ignorance)
The only song I even know on that list is “Jingle Bell Rock.”
That’s about the only context in which I’ve ever seen a handbell choir. I would imagine that there are secular ones, but I’ve not seen them.
Here’s a secular one.
(An Improv Everywhere stunt where a flashmob handbell choir joins a Salvation Army bell ringer.)
I’ve rung church bells, change & method. And I played hand bells (associated
with the church) too - we went round playing carols door to door at Christmas.
There was a hand bell choir at school, but I wasn’t in that…I don’t know
if the bells were owned by the school; they may have been borrowed from
a church.
(I remember them playing The Dambusters March !)
Played in a handbell choir from about 11 to 16. There weren’t enough adults, so my friend and I joined our moms.
Can’t believe there’s no Carol of the Bells (Muppet version, natch) or Come On Ring Those Bells.
Crap. Now I’m listening to Christmas music, and it’s not even Halloween.
