Discussion thread for the "Polls only" thread (Part 2)

I’ve never been arrested. However, I have been “voluntarily detained” a number of times.

I have never voluntarily gotten a tattoo. I was once given one involuntarily. During a colonoscopy, the doctor found a tumor in my colon. He put a mark on it to serve as an aid to the surgeon who removed it. I have been cancer-free, and tattoo-free, for 6 years.

I was involuntarily detained by campus police, but they eventually decided not to turn us over to the police.

I felt so dumb voting for Weird Al who doesn’t even really parody rock that often, but man, someone’s gotta give that man an award.

(ETA: Just looked it up and holy shit, he’s got five grammys. Cool. Still think he would be a good inductee.)

By the time I finished making my selections for the R&R Hall of Fame poll, I decided I don’t even care anymore. It’s just a way to get a bunch of top name artists to perform for free for an HBO special.

Not quite sure what counts as sexually assaulted. I voted no. I have been groped. I’ve been threatened with consequences if I refused sex with somebody. (He didn’t follow through, and might not have been able to.)

I used to love Corn Nuts, but they break teeth.

That’s on the spectrum of sexual assault, IMO (and I think legally, at least in my state.)

I was sexually abused by two different paternal figures in childhood and when I was 17 a 29-year-old guy made me put my hand on his dick, which is probably some kind of crime. But I just got mad and left, so it didn’t register as particularly traumatic.

It was all a long time ago.

I was also in a DV relationship at 17, but after he strangled me (or tried, I guess) I knew it for what it was and got the hell out immediately.

I completely agree. It’s part of why I included him in the poll.

When my ex-wife threw a can at my head, that should have been a red flag. Alas, I went on and got married to her, and was miserable for three years.

“A ‘formal school’? What is it?”
“It’s a huge building with classrooms—but that’s not important right now.”

I think that’s meant in contrast to being home schooled, or unschooled.

Or schooled in a small building (such as the proverbial “one-room schoolhouse”: rural school where several (or all) grades are taught in the same space, and often at the same time).

I’m amused that more people have had a threesome than have been to Africa.

Much cheaper.

I once dated a woman named Africa (for real). No threesome, though.

I was surprised that (currently) 90% of us have no tattoos. I’d estimate at least 70% of the people I encounter have them, and that doesn’t count the ones that can’t be seen in public. (I don’t have any)

There’s a huge correlation between tattoos and age. They are far more common among younger people. And we are mostly old fogies.

I’m interested in the pasta sauce poll. I’m very picky (well, specifically, i won’t eat any pasta sauce that has peppers in it: red, green, sweet, hot) so i make my own. Or my husband or daughter makes it. But if there’s a popular sauce i can eat, that would be way more convenient.

So i voted “mine”, but mostly to see the results.

Looks like we have a lot more people who have read Gulliver’s Travels here than computer programmers.
