Discussion thread for the "Polls only" thread (Part 2)

I really like Carbone pasta sauce.

I’d gotten my tattoos when it was a “edgy” and “rebellious” thing to do, like getting my ear pierced.

There are tons of kids in my neighborhood and I love giving out candy, but I don’t because I can’t have it in the house without eating a lot of it – and I’m both type 2 diabetic and a bariatric surgery patient. Neither of which means that I can’t eat candy, but both mean that I really shouldn’t. Especially in the quantities present when I buy for trick-or-treaters. So, the children suffer because of my lack of self-control.

Younger than…?

For whatever reason, tattoos were huge 30 years ago – when I was in my 20s, and got both of mine. It’s no surprise when someone my age (54) or younger has at least one, but I do think this board tends toward 60+.

Halloween’s not supposed to be a thing here. So I shouldn’t have any trick or treaters asking for candy.

I don’t have any tattoos, but quite a few of my high school classmates do. Maybe 20-25% or even more. I’m mid-50s. My hubby has a classmate who got a medical tattoo before she was 12, and it’s still visible, if she pulls back her hair and you know where to look.

Got audited the first year we filed as non-residents. For some reason I have the impression that this is rather common. Fortunately that was when the company was still paying the accountant.

I don’t have hearing aids, but my younger brother got some this year. He’s in his late 60s.

I’ve never seen a horror movie. So that eliminated a bunch of items from one list.

Same here, except for The Shining.

I really think “My own homemade sauce” shouldn’t have been a possible answer to “What is the best commercial pasta sauce?” (emphasis mine).

I too was interested, because I mostly just get what’s available for relatively cheap, but if one of the more expensive brands got enough love, I might try it. But I’m not going to be able to buy some Doper’s homemade sauce.

Same. I mean, i guess i saw Jaws, but it’s not a type of movie I often watch.

I agree, but “i don’t eat any of them but I’m curious what the rest of you like” wasn’t an option. And it was. So i picked it.

I’m lazy. I’ve never bothered carving a jack-o-lantern as an adult. I have a fake plastic one with a light bulb inside, and I stick that outside my house every year.

I turned the outside lights off because my wife is out of town and we rarely get trick-or-treaters anyway.

This also confused me so I just ignored that selection.

I did a couple of times with my kids when they were little. Luckily for me, I think they found it as pointless as I did.

I used to routinely carve pumpkins every year for my son when he was living.
Then for many years I used to buy a real pumpkin and not carve it.
Then I would buy the tiny little pumpkins/gourds in different colors.
Now I can’t be bothered.
Sometimes I get a little one as a gift since my birthday is at the end of October.
Man that carving makes a nasty, sticky mess.

I enjoy carving a pumpkin. And i enjoy eating the seeds, after i cook them with salt and pepper and lots of butter. And the orange goo comes off with water, you didn’t even need soap.

Oh I used to love cooking and eating pumpkin seeds!

I got my first (and so far only) tattoo at the age of 53. My wife has three, all acquired after she turned 50.

For a few years in the 90s and 00s, the friend group we hung out with would have a pumpkin-carving night every year. It was always a fun time, and I got pretty good at it. This is the only photo I could find of one of my creations:

Now that we live in a 55-and over community, there are no trick-or-treaters. But when we used to get them we always had the lights on and gave out candy because we enjoyed it.

I enjoy carving a pumpkin too, but doing a good one like this takes me a while, like a couple of hours. So in many years I don’t get sufficiently motivated to do any.

While I will eat pasta it isn’t something I do often, when I do it is usually either in a restaurant or as a ready meal so none of the options really applied to me.
