I’m convinced autocorrect changes stuff after i look at it. And I’m a crappy proofreader, have been since elementary school, when i would often end up with more mistakes in my second draft than my first. (And that was hand written!)
Anyway, i apologize to all of you for my incoherent swypos and auto correct errors
I usually write, check, post, realize there’s a mistake, edit the post, realize there’s another mistake, edit again, come back a few hours later, realize there’s another mistake, find myself unable to fix it because the edit window expired.
I proofread most of my posts in the preview window, but now and then I’ll whip off a quick one without checking it, if I feel like walking on the wild side. So it’s kind of somewhere between “meticulously” and “sometimes,” for which I didn’t see a good option.
I tend to write my post, make corrections as I type, proofread and make more corrections, then post. I then notice a few more errors and edit those, only to have the most obvious and embarrassing error pointed out a few posts later.
This is actually a really good example of the hyperfixation side of ADHD. I write the post, read it, edit it, read it, edit it, read it. Look up, realize that two hours have passed.
Not exaggerating. The longest I ever spent on a post here was nine hours. I didn’t sleep. That preceded one of my longer breaks from here, because I realized I needed help.
Something short like this one doesn’t take long at all, but it’s also more likely to have an error.
Also I tend to proofread posts like this after I post them, and then edit in corrections.
I think there’s an element of “I can’t see my own mistakes” here, too. I check my post, but in my brain I see what I intended to write, not what is actually there on the screen, so I think everything looks good. Then I come back an hour later and notice the obvious, glaring error, but it’s too late to edit by then.
I check my posts thoroughly. Usually they come out all right, or at least I think they do. If they don’t, sometimes I catch it during the edit window, sometimes I don’t.
There didn’t seem to be a good option for that. I went with the ‘check thoroughly’ part. Feel free to laugh at whatever I screwed up; especially if it’s in this post.
I always proofread (usually after I post because somehow I see the errors better then), but I still miss occasional errors. My biggest problem is saying dumb things – like emailing my doctor if I might have gallbaldder issues because I have pain on the left side, and the dang gallbladder is on the RIGHT.
One of the few movie houses I’ve lusted after is the one in Practical Magic. But it’s not a real house. It was built on tribal land, so they built it on a kind of platform so that it could be easily disassembled when they were done. I love that house.
This is very much my style. Technically, as a Mod, I could go back and fix my own typos, but unless it’s an official communication (I realize my note or something was unclear) I don’t. At least so far. It’s very tempting.
Of course, the whole “I fixed one typo/mistake and created three others” does happen. So sometimes I’ve gone in to remove redundant language, and leave a partial or incomplete sentence, or one that doesn’t jive with the rest of the paragraph.
Light snow has been on the ground since last week.
A potentially huge storm is brewing with anywhere from 3 - 6 inches is forecast for this weekend.
I am not pleased.
Snow removal does not pair well with chronic back pain.
