Discussion thread for the "Polls only" thread (Part 3)

Was the address “1060 West Addison Street, Chicago, IL 60613”?

Yanno, I kinda like the Wrigley Field bit

I am a woman and I think that whether that’s a good answer depends on who you’re saying it to and what tone of voice you say it in.

Not voting.

I agree with thorny, and also, there are ways of saying that that sounds better than, “fat is good”, like, “wow, your boobs look great in that dress”.

Something else that makes quite a difference who you say it to!

I was torn on how to answer the access poll.

If I’m intending to access and interact (post) it’s predominantly my desktop.

If it’s just reading, my bedside tablet probably wins just by a bit, but I rarely post from it.

I have read, posted and moderated from my on-the-go tablet (5G) especially if I’m away from home.

If I’m away from home but staying in one place, that’s generally the laptop’s time to shine.

And while I read a bit on my phone, I don’t think I’ve posted from it.

I am curious what devices fell into “Other” chosen by two voters.

My “other” was explained above: My preference is a desktop, but Discourse no longer works with my desktop, so I have to use the ipad.

An iPad is a tablet.

I know.

My point was that the device I prefer and the device I’m using aren’t the same thing.

Things not to say: “No, your fat makes you look fat”.

I don’t have any experience of Apple products.

I’m 66⅔ and heck yeah, I’m old. I’ve lived long enough and earned this. Nobody can take it away from me. Shirley MacLaine spoke for me in Terms of Endearment when she proclaimed: "I am a grandmother!" Nothing beats being a grandmother. It’s one of the prizes for living long enough.

Neither company is all that bad. Any big company gets criticisms.
Disney, Walmart, Amazon, etc.

Two weeks ago I moved into a new rental, and there are two wall switches in the garage – on the same plate – that I can’t figure out. The property manager doesn’t know what they do, either. They don’t control any inside or outside lights, nothing within the garage, etc. They’ve been in the “off” position for the last two weeks. If I ever need to have an electrician out here for something I might ask if they can figure it out, but until then the switches shall remain a mystery. And for now, at least, I’m alright with that.

We had one that controlled a outside light, that was defunct.

In this case there’s simply no light – defunct or otherwise – that either of them might control.

There are two switches in my house that do nothing, as far as I can tell. I’ve lived in this house for 30 years.

“In my house there’s this light switch that doesn’t do anything. Every so often I would flick it on and off just to check. Yesterday, I got a call from a woman in Madagascar. She said, ‘Cut it out.’
Steven Wright

I know what all the switches in my house do, but right now I’m staying at a hotel in Rome, and there are two switches on the wall that don’t seem to do anything. I’m mystified. I don’t see any extra lights that don’t work, either.

I am guilty of installing a switch that does nothing. I had plans to install some outdoor lighting in my previous home that was to be controlled by an indoor switch. I got as far as installing the switch when we decided to move.
