I’ve already told my manager that I’ll be working remote until it’s over. I’m staying up here in the mountains until it’s safe to come down.
My desktop computer died last month so I am accessing everything online via my tablets for now.
I much prefer a desktop but that won’t be my reality for quite some time.
I much prefer the desktop but Discourse won’t work with my desktop any longer, so I’m typing this on an ipad.
I couldn’t post or read here on my flip phone; it has theoretically got a browser, but I never use it as the screen’s too small to see anything, even aside from the phone type keyboard. I suppose a standard phone would be a little better than the flip, but I find even the ipad annoying in both screen size and touchscreen.
About 60% from phone, 40% from laptop.
I’m sort of rooting for England as the home team, plus Iraq and Austria because I’ve drawn them in the office pool. But I’m not optimistic at all about the latter two and not terribly engaged on the first one.
Supporting the USA (my home team) and Ghana (where I used to live). If they meet in a match, go USA!
I’ve only accessed the site from my phone for several years.
I sometimes access this site from a laptop, but i don’t think I’ve used a desktop for anything in more than a decade, probably two. My laptop plugs into an external monitor when i need more real estate. Otherwise, i can use it at the kitchen table, in the comfy chair in the living room, or for video calls in the basement.
My son plays soccer and he and his teammates naturally are rooting for Japan.
I don’t feel that strongly about the game, but I like watching with my son.
I can’t say that I’m really rooting for the US team. My son and I are much more excited about how Japan is doing.
Depending on how strongly your son feels about the Japan team you may end up fiercely rooting for Japan.
My dad didn’t care much about football, and to the point that he cared about it at all he was a supporter of Independiente de Avellaneda because he had gone to the club’s pool as a youngster.
But then he was saddled with a son, me, who was a fan of River Plate and got absolutely destroyed when River lost.
So he ended up a big River fan, even when playing against Independiente.
For some reason YouTube has been recommending some police bodycan videos of traffic stops to me lately. A number of them are of police stopping vehicles with red and blue lights. Apparently having such lights on your vehicle is considered impersonation of a law enforcement officer and is illegal in most jurisdictions. In the videos I’ve seen, the police take this very seriously – the driver is arrested, not just given a ticket.
@CaveMike what state allows the public to view license plate info, or do you have that capability thru your job?
It could be an undercover cop car & depending upon where you live, it could be some volunteer fire/EMS officer; either of which could be recalled & no longer need to proceed in at emergency speed.
It was an Illinois plate. I did a Google search and found a free site that looks up plates and returns the registration info.
It’s been a year or so and I don’t remember the specific site, but here’s an example of another site: lookupaplate dot com
That site is only returning what vehicle it’s registered too; from your earlier post I thought you were saying you could get registered owner info which is wonderful…if you’re a stalker. ![]()
Sorry, I was not clear. I did not get info on the owner. I think this is protected by the Driver’s Privacy Protection Act. It’s been a while, but I think I wanted to verify that I remembered the license plate number correctly by checking the make/model.
I initially voted “Nothing (assumed it was fake),” but changed to “Nothing (assumed it was legit)” after reading this clarification.
But either way, it’s not my business. If it’s fake, sooner or later the idiot will flash his lights at the wrong person and get in very big trouble.
Unless they pull someone over & rob/assault them.
My thoughts would be some undercover car as I’ve seen enough one-offs, including some that were drug forfeitures that I probably wouldn’t think much of it other than “Cool undercover car”
Yes, there has been a number of serial killers who impersonated police officers. I know the Hillside Strangler(s) did.
I would call the police non-emergency number and report it, and NOT try to look up the plate.
Police do give out those lights to detectives who use their own vehicle.
I would probably also do that; while pointing out that I didn’t know whether there was an actual problem.
And my local cops don’t have a reputation of randomly shooting people. I’d be a lot more hesitant to call the police in a strange place.
— and I think that both circumstances and choices affect the outcome of one’s life; and that which category has more effect depends a whole lot on the individual’s circumstances and the individual’s choices.
