Discussion thread for the "Polls only" thread (Part 3)

Inna and I have travel plans for the next few years, so I listed cities we’re highly likely to miss: Hong Kong, Auckland, and Manila.

And, yes, I agree with @Dr.Drake - under the terms given, I would go to any of these cities.

Wow; 2/3 of you chose Five guys. Greasy & overly salted fries IMO.

I actually live in a tsunami evacuation zone (there are signs and everything), but I only have to go a few blocks to be out of that zone.

The person I killed in a dream was my sister. We had just got done fighting a battle with The Lone Ranger and Tonto as our allies and were walking up in some cliffs. I knew that if I fell in a dream I’d wake up before I’d hit the ground, so I was wondering if I jumped off the cliff and pulled my sister with me would she wake up too? No. She didn’t. Experiment failed.

I don’t understand this phrase.

Neither, WildaBeast, neither. I couldn’t answer the poll because both choices were wrong. It’s Encyclopædia.

It’s this a place I’d willingly go if i were at home? A place I’d willing go if i were stuck in an airport with limited options? Something in between?

I have never been to a lot of the entries, and i suppose I’d be willing to try them once. Dunno if I’d be willing to go back.

I’ll only eat at McD if they have the fish sandwich. I kinda like the fish sandwich, even though it’s very 'fast food". But i won’t eat any of the burgers.

Your call. Writing the polls, my thought was that “willingly” meant “if you have a choice.” If you don’t like Chick-Fil-A (for whatever reason), but they’re the only food option available at the little airport, you decide how you would answer the poll.

Ditto. Most of them either I’ve never eaten at, or not eaten at for years and they may have changed. I don’t eat out often. Not voting in that one.

I’ll have to think about the cities. I don’t think I know anybody in any of them. I expect I could find something interesting in any of them, though there are a couple I’d like to avoid, and some I’d want to research first.

There are too many good independent pizza joints to willingly go to any of the chains which are, without exception, substandard.

I don’t disagree with you, at least for where I live, in the Chicago area, where we have an embarrassment of excellent pizza places. My experience is that this varies tremendously by region of the country, and by bigger metro areas versus smaller towns.

I spent 7 years in Port Townsend, WA (pop. 7,000) and there were, at least, three independents better than the Domino’s and Papa John’s also vying for my business. Yet, those chains were thriving. I thought my disappointment in my fellow human beings could not be greater (this was before 2016).

When I lived in northern California in the late 80s the only pizza this Jersey boy considered edible was Domino’s, so they made the list even though I would never choose to go there at home. If I am anywhere west of Rochester or south of the Mason Dixon line, it’s Domino’s.

*And in Pennsylvania if the name even hints at “Tomato Pie” it’s a firm No.

I had in-laws who lived in South Florida, having moved there from the Chicago area. They regularly complained at how lousy the pizza was at the local joints there.

I would go out of my way for Del Taco or Der Wienerschnitzel (the fries!). And have.

My highest diploma is framed and hanging at work, but wasn’t for the first 20 years or so. I only did it recently because I wasn’t sure what else to do with it.

My favorite fast food is Arby’s. The closest one to my house is 25 miles away in a direction I almost never travel. The next closest is 65 miles. So whenever my wife and I do a long trip, we plot out a route that allows me to stop at Arby’s on the way. She’s not crazy about Arby’s but she’s very accommodating about it.

I like their fries, but they absolutely refuse to have 1000 island dressing.

If I am traveling, I will grab either hash browns or fries at a McDs, but nothing much else.

My exact feelings. Though, outside the poll, I do suspect that it would end up as a mistrial, ESPECIALLY if another juror was foolish enough to bring it up in deliberations.

For the Fast food polls, my choices were based on some circumstance that required eating fast food - travel, airport options/captive audience, etc. Under those, I picked the ones I would willingly eat at including 5 Guys, but I don’t go to any of the listed one under other circumstances. I don’t go to fast food proactively ( minor exception for a green chile cheeseburger from a certain local to NM chain, but not even that after the recent corporate effort to gentrify it).

There were possible exceptions to individual members of chains: Popeyes especially can be darn good under good management, but all my local versions are haphazard on their efforts towards cleanliness, freshness and consistency.

In the thread spawning the Fast Food Polls I didn’t comment because it was a bit of a distraction from the thread, but here I’ll say that Chick-Fil-A (one of my choices) is BOTH overrated and underrated. Over, because it’s just fine fast food, nothing earth changing in any way. But, unlike KFC and Popeyes, they are very consistent in cleanliness and quality. Which makes them an acceptable default choice in the few circumstances where I’m considering fast food.

I never framed my Master’s, and eventually threw it out.

Wendy’s is the only fast food I’d seek out.

Does Starbucks even serve meals? I can’t remember ever being inside one, but my impression was that they mainly did overpriced sugary fancy coffee drinks.

And I didn’t know it was possible to eat at a Domino’s, Papa John’s, or Little Caesar’s. You get pizza from there and take it elsewhere.

Other than that, I don’t think there are any fast food places (on the list or not) that I wouldn’t happily eat at at least once. Like, if you and I were on a road trip and you decided to stop for fast food, I’m sure I could find something worth eating. But if I were going out of my way, it would be to try something I hadn’t tried before, or to go somewhere I didn’t normally have access to, or to take advantage of some special deal.

They sell prepackaged sandwiches and similar. I have on occasion bought a bacon roll there (which they heat up for you). But it’s not the same as regular fast food joints.
