Discussion thread for the "Polls only" thread (Part 3)

The hit at Starbucks is apparently their microwaved micro-frittatas called Egg Bites. They’re not bad, but certainly not what anybody would call a meal. I suspect all of the food there is prepared off-site (except for the microwave part).

Mildly related anecdote. There are only 2 fast food places in my town: Taco Bell and Burger King. Last night on the way home I stopped for some Taco Bell because no one was home and I didn’t feel like cooking a meal for myself. Sitting at the large corner table was a group of about 6 people, all of whom were wearing Burger King shirts. Kind of demonstrates why I’ll never darken the door of a Burger King.

When I’m traveling and lazy, i sometimes buy breakfast in the Starbucks in the hotel lobby. (There usually a Starbucks in the lobby.) It always makes me sad, because the choices are sad. A mediocre breakfast sandwich, instant oatmeal, or sometimes a yogurt parfait made with overly sweet, chalky yogurt. (Yes, I’ve tried them all. They have not-very-good pastries, too.) But I’m never happy about it.

Me, too. I think McD’s burgers are inedible – not matter how cheap I won’t eat them. The fish sandwich was ok when I last ate it decades ago, and when I worked with a youth group they often wanted to stop at McD’s for lunch. I’d sometimes get the nuggets, but even they were pretty crappy. Again, it’s been nearly 40 years since I’ve eaten at McD’s. I’m spoiled for choice, so why would I?

I voted for 4-6 slices of bacon, but if it’s thin and very crisp, I could be persuaded to eat more.

Yeah, I’ve eaten more than that, too. Especially if I’m hungry, and i plan to dance or otherwise do something energetic that day.

So, something like this…

I’m no BK fan, only going as a desperate resort, but I wouldn’t want to eat filet every day, either; especially if my job is cooking filet all day. Probably an impromptu “lets go out after work”, all the moreso not unusual if they need to leave BK as soon as their closing tasks are done after the restaurant closes for the night; they’d get in trouble if they cooked themselves a meal at 9:01pm, & if they need to clean the grill before they leave then they can’t cook anything on it once they clean it

This was about 5 pm - before the evening rush. I assumed they were on the way to work.

I can’t even imagine eating Taco Bell sober.

I can eat anything with enough Diablo sauce.

Their Doritos tacos are a guilty pleasure of mine.

F 451 really isnt a very good book- IMHO, and arguably it isnt Science Fiction. But Highschoolers are nearly always subjected to it.

“Fahrenheit Cuatro cinco uno” :slightly_smiling_face: pronouncing Fahrenheit as in English but saying the numbers in Spanish.
I guess if I ever talked about the book in a work context (which is the only place I speak English out loud generally), I would try to say Fahrenheit Four Five One, or Four hundred and fifty one.

I’m curious how they would have reacted to a book report on Pet Sematary by Stephen King.

FYI Ray always pronounced it “four fifty one.”

I wonder if they listened to Deaf Leopard while grading papers.

mmm

Starbucks has reasonable breakfast sandwiches. The soy latte provides my lovely wife with enough protein to make it to her destination, and the marshmallow bars are GF DF EF. I usually get the packaged protein plate, which has some vegetables, hardboiled eggs, and the like. A hell of a lot better than a Mc-anything.

They were more of a Motley Crew fan.

For Bacon, I answered more than 30. But that’s what I could eat. Not what I would, for many reasons.

And, per the poll, that was assuming peak conditions - appetite, perfectly cooked and seasoned, etc.

I would normally stop far short of that - sodium/fat worries, wanting to have it with something else, salt fatigue/burn, any number of factors.

But if I was in peak appetite, and it’s all I had, combined with the perfect combinations to my preferences, I could probably finish in the very low thirties of medium-thick bacon.

I’d certainly regret it later that day though!

[ the answer would be lower for beef bakken, and possibly higher for duck bacon (smaller pieces if nothing else), as two of the other variants I would eat. Sizzlelean, turkey bacon, and other options I’ve had in the past get a hard pass ]

I was going to post exactly the same, more or less, to nobody’s surprise at this point.
