Re: shorts—
I voted “other,” because I don’t think “acceptable” is quite the right word. I don’t think it’s professional, but I suspect the answer is different in south Florida or Hawai’i than it is in Boston or Seattle. I have nice legs (guy), and I wouldn’t, but if somebody else did I wouldn’t care, whatever the state of their legs.
This is my take on it as well.
This morning I was discussing wearing shorts in the office. At my office people are more likely to be capri hiking shorts, which cover the knee. And it’s more common for R&D and IT people, but also the electricians and carpenters.
I voted yes for shorts. But, I suppose it depends on the office. In our office, people can wear whatever they want. I don’t know what other offices are like. If I walked into my CPAs office and people were wearing shorts, I wouldn’t care. (I don’t wear shorts often, because I don’t find them cooler than pants. I guess my legs are not where I feel the heat).
If we want to cancel it should be the whole song for the writer’s actions rather than his words.
I voted “Yes” as well. I don’t wear shorts myself, - partly because my office is too cold in the summer and partly because I dress more traditionally - but I don’t care if other people do.

I live in L.A., so if I want to get anywhere nearby in less than an hour, I drive. I walk for exercise, but not to actually go anywhere except the dentist. I’m lucky that my dentist is only two blocks from me. We had season tix to the Kings with a friend who lived in Pasadena. When the line into Pasadena opened (this was years ago) we drove to his place, then took the Gold line, then the Green line downtown. We got to go through Union Station – a place I love – and it was a fun trip. I really liked the route of the Green line (that kinda paralleled the Arroyo Seco) because it went behind houses. It was more interesting than city streets.

I was a bit shocked by the Abos line in the kangaroo song. I must have only heard expurgated versions.
As to shorts, that depends on the office and to some extent on the shorts. It does not depend on the gender or the appearance of the legs.
What I would do about computers etc. if I went on vacation would depend on whether I was leaving somebody else in charge of the house who might want to use them.
Shorts would never be right for any place I worked but I voted it depends on the office because I haven’t worked everywhere.
I used to read 2 or 3 books a week. Now it’s pretty much zero per year. As I got older I just don’t have the patience any more. I still read a lot but it’s on my phone in shorter forms.
I said “other” for shorts in the office, because it depends on the office. I had a “business suits required” dress code until maybe 15 years ago. No shorts. I visited Bermuda where … the business suits have shorts, not trousers. Shorts are fine, maybe even required. If your office is a workshop long pants might be required for safety. And I’m sure the dress code is different for wait staff, doctors, computer programmer, lawyers, pet groomers, plumbers, etc.
I also said other for what i do with my devices, because the real answer is it varies. Sometimes i turn off my laptop and unplug it. Other times i leave it on and connected to the local backup device. Some times i don’t think about it, and leave it however it was.
I guess the TVs are always off but plugged in.
Yeah, if you see the CEO or etc wearing shorts , you can also.

Because then THEY!!! will know. 
A couple of other SDMBers have said the same. Maybe someone can do a (NON-public) poll? Because if enough posters say they skip public polls, it would skew the results. I just dont see the point myself.
We all know a bunch of posters skip all public polls. A couple have even given reasons that kinda make sense to me. (Because they want to be in the habit of checking.) Most… As best as i can the there’s a reflexive “public is bad” thing going on. Which i find sad, because the results of public polls are almost always more interesting the the results of private polls.
I didn’t vote because I didn’t really know the bands. I don’t typically shy away from public polls because they are public.
