- Are people with colorful cars more likely to respond to such a poll?
- Is it just a fluke due to small sample size, and grey scale cars will eventually catch up as more people respond?
- ETA: Is it because red and blue are the two most common non grey scale colors for cars, while the grey scale cars are spread out amongst four options: white, grey, silver, and black?
My car is a light blue, like a horizon blue.

Or maybe that SDMBers are smarter than the average bear and realize that white is not really a color. Nor black, grey, etc. Blue, red, etc= those are colors. 
I voted grey, but it’s quite a dark grey.
I didn’t pick the color. I was buying used; it was one of the makes/models I thought would work, and it was within my price range (if barely) at the time, and it was warranted by my mechanic, who I had reason to trust; it had been their loaner, and I’d driven it in that capacity, and liked it. The color wasn’t really an issue for me.
But then, for a while in the late 70’s/ early 80’s, I drove a green car with red doors. Or maybe the other way around, I don’t remember. I’ve never much cared what my cars looked like.
*Are Dopers mostly old men who drive old cars that predate the greyscale preference?
Another point, are dopers generally older and well off enough to be able to buy a more colorful car than put up with the greyscale colors?
I didn’t want the dark gray option, but I wasn’t going to pay $800-1500 for a “premium” color either.
I’m 61; I bought my candy red metallic Ford Mustang 15 years ago, when I was 46, and colorful cars were already on the wane. I did have to do a dealer search to get the red, and did have to pay an upcharge, but it was (still is) my “midlife crisis” car, and I wanted red, dangit!
FWIW, the other two cars we own are both blue: a 2007 Mazda CX-7 in electric blue, and a 2015 Corvette in “Laguna Blue.” The last car which my wife and I owned which was in the “grayscale” range was a 1991 Mazda Protege which I bought while I was still single, and which we sold in 2002.
We bought a new car two weeks ago and it is “Denim Blue”.
This is what immediately came to mind. 
My car is white. I tried to buy a colored car. I tried to buy a green car. But the one the dealer could get with the “winter heater for the battery” feature was white. So that’s what i bought. It looks like every other white car. I don’t hate it as much as i hate black (too hot) but i really dislike the color.
I’ve considered getting it wrapped, but wraps don’t last very long, i think.
My Jeep is Snazzberry. It’s kind of a purplish dark red, but I wouldn’t call it maroon either. I voted Other.
I’ve never really cared much about what color a car is when buying it. Once a dealer had a red and a white GTI equipped the same and I chose the red one. That’s the only time in my life color has entered the decision making process.

My beloved little car is bright red, but is absolutely not fancy. I drive a 2011 Mazda2 hatchback, manual shift. I bought it new and got it in red because the other color available at the time was a bright acid green, and also an automatic so more expensive (plus I just really prefer a stick shift).
If i wanted to buy another color, and searched local stock for another color, but bought the white anyway, how should i vote?
My car is black, just like nearly every other car on the road. Boring. I would have rather gotten a red of even a blue car, but this one was $10K less. I may not be the smartest person in the world, but I ain’t the dumbest either.
We bought the car for other reasons, (price, repair parts availability, trust in the vendor) mainly but the color was part of the consideration (just 0.001% of the decision though)
Same. I couldn’t believe it when they told me the price difference between black and green.
I chose orange for car color in the poll because it was the option that was closest. My Subaru Cross Trek color is called Sun Blaze. It’s a deep rust orange. To me, orange is bright orange, like an orange!
Yeah, if I’d had a choice between two very similar cars at very similar prices but which were different colors: at that point color would have become a consideration, though I’d probably have looked up which color was supposed to be more visible on the road and gone with that.
BIC makes colorful plastic butane lighters, they would do really great selling plastic automobiles in primary Red, Green, Yellow, Blue, etc.
In the sunroof poll, i voted, “i have one and I’m meh, sometimes use it”, but the real answer is that i have one and my husband really likes it, and we mostly drive the same car, so that matters.
Basically, if it’s open when i get in the car, i leave it open unless the sun gets in my eyes. But we often buy the car with a sun roof. When we have one that opens, i sometimes open it if the car has been in the sun to let the hot air out.
