Discussion thread for the "Polls only" thread (Part 3)

My phone case is also bright orange. I suspect you could see it on the bottom of Lake Amerontarica.

mmm

Velocity asks a interesting poll. Now, we do have someone who is always late, so for like a movie, we will tell her it starts 15 minutes before. But a whole day, on a work thing? Tough question.

Here is what I would do- “The Deadline is the 31st, but I need it on my desk by the 30th to go over it first”.

My flip phone is waterproof and sturdy with no case.

It didn’t come with a choice of colors; but if it did I’d have paid something extra — not lots — for a color easier to see if I drop it in the field. Which I have done. Most of my tools have red flagging tape tied on them, but that doesn’t really work with the phone.I suppose I could paint it but haven’t.

What I would tell the person might depend on the person, but it might be something like ‘I think it’s the 31st but I’m not sure, it might be earlier. I might also point out if the 31st was a holiday and whoever they were supposed to give it to might not be receiving.

I just cracked my phone cover peeling it off to see what color my phone was. Thanks a lot.

I tell my friend when the deadline is. If meeting the deadline is important to me, I’ll probably remind her a few days in advance, the day before, and the day of. If it’s important to her but not to me, I prefer to let natural consequences teach the lesson.

Takes a deep breath

I have a coworker, Always Late, who is always late. I have tried email and calendar reminders, texts, passionate appeals, clear articulation of why I need things by a certain deadline, and yes, lying, yet she always seems to figure out the actual deadline. In some cases she’s missed the deadline completely. Her state reports are always late. We’ve been doing this for four years and she misses the deadlines every quarter.

She is the #2 person at the agency and besties with #1. Excuses all the time. Excuses excuses excuses. Nobody gives a shit about my time. I’m about to cancel all of my holiday weekend plans to compensate for leadership’s failure, once again, to get me things I need by the date I need them.

Yes I will lie like a motherfucker.

Nah, I never wanted that. Make that thing chunky, with a 3 day battery life even watching videos. Make it durable while you’re at it, with an easily replaceable battery.

Well, that is different than someone who is always 15 minutes late. My condolences.

This. The first thing I do with a new phone is put in in a case, even before setting it up. I find them too thin & slippery & that it’s just so much easier to hold in a case. I’m much less likely to drop it if it’s in a case & if I do, it’s got some protection on it.

My phone case is cut out around the camera, so I can see that it is red. Hubby and I normally get new phones at the same time, and I got a different color to make sure I know which one is mine, even without a case.

The current case is brown, as it is part of a 2-piece wallet-style case. Next time I’m getting fluorescent green. I can never find my phone in my bag.

Mine is black on black. But I would accept purple.

Whereas i keep looking for smaller phones. They have gotten too damn big, and didn’t fit very well in my hand. There’s no way I’m putting some giant case on the thing.

Ironic, isn’t it? Back in the flip phone days being as small as possible was a selling point. But now that we have smartphones everyone wants bigger screens to watch their videos on, so they’re getting bigger again.

15 years ago, when I finally gave up my flip phone for a smartphone, my chief complaint about the iPhone was that it was so small I couldn’t use the keyboard. I adopted Android thanks to behemoths like the Galaxy Note. When Google replaced the Assistant with Gemini, I made the reluctant decision to switch to an iPhone. That decision was made less painful thanks to the Pro Max.

ETA: I NEVER watch videos on my phone. I have always wanted the biggest screen possible to account for my sausage fingers.

I like seeing the phone as it was designed. It’s aesthetically pleasing to me. I always get a clear case.

Trump will rename the country “John Cock-toast-en.”

This.

We bought our car to match our dog (interior too), so the car is, of course, black.

Question about the vehicle color poll: does maroon count as red?

Because, to my mind, red cars and maroon cars are distinctly different categories (and both are far more common than some of the other colors in the poll).

Interesting that Red and blue are (currently) leading the car colour pole.
Throughout the world grey scale cars are far more popular

Maybe I should post a poll to find out why?

  • Are Dopers just a more colorful bunch
  • Are greyscale cars mainly used for 2nd / 3rd vehicles?
  • Do people lie when they answer questions in polls?
  • Other
